1). [Texas] President James K. Polk. Land Grant to a member of the Texas Mounted Riflemen, for service in the Mexican American War. Printed broadside 25 x 39.5 cm on vellum. Washington, December 1, 1848, countersigned by the Recorder of the General Land Office ("S. H. Laughlin") and with embossed paper seal of that Office. Folded, else near fine.
Printed document secretarially signed. Granting land to John Wilson, a private in Captain McCulloch's Company, Texas Mounted Riflemen, and to his assignees. They were also unofficially known as Hay's Texas Rangers. Captain Ben McCulloch's Gonzales Company was an experienced Texas Ranger frontier company and served with distinction in the Mexican American War.
