In the aftermath of the Panic of 1837 and subsequent depression, Jackson, "presenting himself as a victim of stock swindling during the Panic of 1837, portray[s] the securities market as a comic stage where the folly of the multitude intersected with the wicked designs of the few." New York: Putnam, 1940. First edition. Original cloth, slight wrinkle in the first few pages, but an excellent copy in dust jacket (edges slightly rubbed, small tape mend at crown).

Boston: Little, Brown, 1903. First edition. Original decorated cloth, spine darkened, front cover a little rubbed, but the design and lettering largely intact, pinholes in front free endpaper; very good copy.

London: The Fine Arts Society, 1891. First edition. Original grey wrappers, slightly chipped; very good. Edel, Laurence, and Rambeau B7. BAL 10593. Laid in is a 4-page leaflet "Fernand Khnopf Exhibtion. Catalogue" published by the Hanover Gallery, also in New Bond Street. Both pieces are annotated in pencil in what looks to be P.S. O'Hegarty's hand.

One of 300 copies. Matted and framed. Fine condition with minimal fading of the signatures. Sargent's portrait was commissioned in 1913, by a group of James's English friends, in honor of his seventieth birthday. James agreed to sit on condition that the portrait would be given to the National Portrait Gallery (if they would accept it, which they did). James later arranged for one of these prints to be sent to all those who had donated to the celebratory event. Will be shipped without frame unless other arrangements are made.

London: Macmillan, 1890. First English edition. Three volumes, original blue cloth, lightly rubbed, covers spotted, and traces of removed labels removed on front covers, two endpapers cracking slightly, but all hinges sound. A very good copy of the scarce triple-decker, one of 500 copies printed, issued shortly after the two-volume U.S. edition. James's last triple-decker, and his last book published by Macmillan. Honolulu: Charles Edwin Hitchcock, 1847. Third edition, the first to be printed in Hawaii, with a greatly expanded and revised text. 8vo, 240 pp. Cloth sides, embossed with a decorative pattern, rubbed and soiled; calf back (rubbed and splitting on joint) but a very good copy, internally clean and fresh, of this scarce issue. From the preface: "The whole work has been re-written with much care and the history brought down to the present time...." Forbes 1654 [33164].
