Judah [Caption title]. No. 1037. King's Bench. James Green, plaintiff vs. Sylvester Scott, defdt. /.../. Montreal, 8th March, 1844. Signed by Thomas S. Judah, attorney for defdt. Form filled in. "The defendant is not guilty in the manner as complained of against him". Thomas S. Judah was the second Jew admitted to the Bar of Lower and Upper Canada, one month after Aaron Ezekiel Hart (1803-1857) was received in November 1824. He was born in Trois-Rivières, Francheville, QC.Aaron Ezekiel Hart was thus the first Jew to be called to the bar in either of the Canadas in 1824 at 21 years old. His singular position was short-lived, however, since the following month a distant cousin, Thomas Storrs Judah (1804-95), was similarly called, as was Thomas's brother Henry Hague Judah (1808-83) four years later in 1829.
