Signed by the author on the front free endpaper and denoted "numbered series," with a hand correction by her on the copyright page. In a letter to the New York Review of Books regarding Paul Auster's review of this book, the author described the book as "this product of lifelong studying how to speak so that one speaks, of what is for being spoken, that which most waits on being spoken." A shorter earlier version which appeared in Chelsea magazine in 1967.

Top edge gilt. Spine a bit darkened, small nick on top edge of rear board, but overall, a clean tight copy of an uncommon book. Detroit: Poets Company, 1966. LP record. Near Fine. Original 33 1/3 rpm vinyl album. A recording made at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan at the Miles Modern Poetry Reading on November 20, 1962. Contains several of Jarrell's translations of Rilke along with some of his best-known poems ("The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner," "The Woman at the Washington Zoo," and others). Slight surface wear to sleeve, vinyl appears unplayed.

Spine gilt rubbed, some edgewear. An early post-apocalyptic novel, the book describes the ecological repercussions of an unspecified catastrophe. Jefferies was one of the great nature writers of his day, and his The Story of My Heart (1883) is a classic of spiritual examination and introspection.

[12] pp. String-sewn wrappers, paper label on front cover. A reprint of Jeffers' own review of his first book, Flagons and Apples, which was published in the Los Angeles Times on December 8, 1912. Photographic frontispiece portrait of Jeffers tipped in. Printed by William Erik Voss at the Lyceum Press. A fine copy in original printed envelope.

First edition, one of 1000 copies printed. 198 pp. Red paper boards over black buckram backstrip, lettered and decorated in gilt, with the dust jacket. The jacket shows some minor rubbing but is fairly clean overall. Two newspaper articles about Gilbert's exhibition on Jeffers at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art are tipped-in on the rear endpapers and consequently browned. A fairly early and sympathetic study of Jeffers' work; in a letter to Gilbert after having read the manuscript Jeffers wrote, "I must thank you for your extremely well-done, careful, sympathetic and interesting study of my poems." An earlier letter from Jeffers is reproduced in facsimile holograph preceding the title-page. Briefly and warmly inscribed by Gilbert on the front free endpaper. Broomfield Bii22.

Some edgewear, rust stains from staples at spine edge. Colors bright and fresh. Twelve verses for children by Jan Peeters, with 12 full-page linoleum block color prints by Floris Jespers. A spectacular and early avant-garde children's book. Jespers' abstracted and representational color plates interplay geometric and decorative styles drawn from Cubism, Constructivism, Expressionism, De Stijl, and Art Deco. An outstanding example of post-World War I book illustration. OCLC locates five copies in the US.
