Berlin: Walter de Gruyter & Co, 1923. Paperback. Good. [4] p.: illustrations; 27 cm. Brown wrapper printed in black. An offprint from Archäologischer Anzeiger. Stamp of Dept. of Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology, Bryn Mawr College, at foot of front wrapper. Handwritten call number at head of spine on front wrapper. Name written in red on front wrapper. The early work of Paul Jacobsthal (1880-1957) was focused on Greek vases. In 1935 he was forced to leave Germany because of the rise of the Nazis; after he settled in England he expanded his interests to Celtic art. This offprint, about blinders on horses as depicted in Roman art, is an outlier from both of those areas. Very scarce.
