The Art of The Illustrator by Percy V Bradshaw was published by The Press Art School, Forest Hill, London 1918. In 1918 Percy Bradshaw contacted 20 of the leading illustrators of the day and commissioned each of them for a special illustration. Each artist was given an entirely free hand as to subject, the only stipulation being that the painting or drawing should be representative of his/her technique and that each stage in its composition should be shown. Bradshaw then reproduced in 6 plates each step in the artistic process and published the 6 lithographs in a portfolio with a 12 page introduction and description of the process within a card folder. Starwatcher characters populate the mystical Tower whilst two figures float by on their floating vessel. An overwhelming sense of calm is present on the vessel, yet we can feel the excitement of the watchers from the tower ... even Arzach can't be far away as his pterodactyl-like bird is accompanying the ship. The print has been created using screen-printing techniques whereby certain colours have been overlapped to create deeper hues and to create the colours which hide all manner of details. 1984. Print. New. Moebius (Jean Giraud). Screenprint by Moebius (Jean Giraud) on Acid-free Paper. SIGNED NUMBERED PRINT. Size: 19" x 25" (495mm x 647mm). This beautiful hand embellished and extremely rare screen print was released in 1984 alongside Moebius' exhibition 'de Paris a Venise' in Bruxelles. The 200 screen prints in this edition were individually hand embellished using watercolour so that every one of them is different. This creates a wider breadth of tone and colour variation, as well as creating the crystals' glowing effect. This print is hand numbered and hand signed in pencil by Moebius, and also bears the Aedena Paris publishing house blind stamp in the lower left corner. The print has been made on watermarked Arches paper, which also includes a Moebius symbol in the watermark. The waves in the margins to the left and right of the image are due to the paper dampening and drying during the hand water-colouring process- this is not a defect or due to the print being badly kept.
