Description:
[Richmon, 1828. 8pp. Loose gathering, previously stitched. Slight chipping at edges, tanning. Good plus. Untrimmed. An unrecorded printing of a short tract defending John Quincy Adams from criticisms by supporters of Andrew Jackson in Virginia in the run-up to the presidential election of 1828. The pamphlet was published for distribution by pro-Adams Virginians, met at a convention in Richmond in 1828 intended to rally support for Adams and stoke anti- Jackson sentiments. The address portrays Adams as a steady, experienced hand and Jackson as an unpredictable danger to democracy.

Description:
Denver, [ca. 1880].. Mammoth-plate albumen photograph, 22 x 17¼ inches. Jackson's name printed on the mat. Light discoloration in the sky in the upper center portion of the image. Near fine. Matted, glazed, and framed, with calligraphic manuscript title below the photograph. Contemporary wooden presentation frame (see below). A beautiful mammoth-plate albumen photograph by William H. Jackson of the Royal Gorge in central Colorado. Jagged cliffs rise steeply into the sky, and the track of the Denver and Rio Grande Railway comes toward us from the distance, running along the Arkansas River. Jackson used a slight time exposure in taking this image, giving the river a very fluid quality. The photograph is in a contemporary presentation frame, inscribed with the initials of the Denver and Rio Grande Railway in the bottom panel. This photograph was taken during Jackson's Denver era when he did extensive work for the railroads of Colorado and was given his own personal railroad car from which he based…

[Denver: William H. Jackson Studio, ca. 1882].. Mammoth-plate albumen photograph, 17 x 21 inches, on original printed grey card mount, approximately 20½ x 25 inches. Mounted to larger white card stock and framed. Some fading to image. Closed 1½-inch vertical tear in bottom margin of the print. Closed circular tear and old stain in the lower edge of the white mount. Overall very good. A splendid and rare mammoth-plate albumen photograph produced by William Henry Jackson about 1882 after he traveled the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad. The previous year, Gen. W.J. Palmer of the D&R.G. hired Jackson to take a series of photographs along the rail line for promotional purposes. The railway provided Jackson with a specially-built railway car that included a flat portion which served as a photographic platform. The present photograph captures the silver- mining town of Silverton, Colorado with Sultan Mountain in the background. A title in the lower margin of the photograph (partially faded), printed in the…

Washington: Gales & Seaton, 1828. 22pp. Modern three-quarter morocco and cloth, spine gilt. Minor foxing, light vertical crease. Very good. Untrimmed. A compilation of Jackson's letters to Secretary of War John Armstrong during the Creek War of 1814-15, tending to defend Jackson against persistent allegations that he acted unfairly to the Indians after the conclusion of hostilities in the war. Jackson's last letter here is a plea to the War Department that the United States should spend no small amount of time and money to feed and clothe the defeated Creeks, lest they see fit to side with the British troops who are "no doubt...on our coast" and arming the Indians for battle against the Americans. Description:
Washington: Gales & Seaton, 1828.. 63pp. Modern three-quarter morocco and cloth, gilt titles. Boards slightly bowed. Small ink notation on titlepage, bottom corner of last leaf torn, text somewhat tanned. Good plus. Lacks the folding muster rolls. The controversy surrounding Jackson and his execution of several alleged deserters during the War of 1812 is here rekindled, no doubt due to Jackson's first presidential campaign. The present document reviews the court- martial trial at which the men were sentenced to death, particularly in regards to which term of duty stands when state militiamen are called into federal service. At the time, a Tennessee state militia tour was three months, while the federal tour was six. In their defense, the men believed they had fulfilled their obligations, and maintained their innocence until their execution, though there is no specific response to the charges of mutiny also leveled against them. Scarce, OCLC locating only six copies. OCLC 9866569.

The photograph shows the narrow Toltec Gorge in the San Juan Mountains, through which the railroad ran its line into the Toltec Tunnel. Barren, rocky cliffs rise majestically in the background, while the foreground is dominated by the icy Rio de los Pinos. Jackson appears to have used a slight time exposure in taking the photograph, giving the water and spray of the river an attractive milky quality. Expertly matted, and protected with mylar sheet. A very striking broadside, evidently intended for presentation to members of Congress, as it bears the printed inscription: "Respectfully inscribed to the Twenty-First Congress...By the Publisher." The text is Jackson's first State of the Union Message, of December 8, 1829, and printed in January 1830. Any early broadsides printed on silk are very rare.

Description:
[New Orleans], 1827.. 28pp. Stitched as issued. Spine reinforced with tissue, some splitting. Minor soiling and wear, last two leaves lightly dampstained. Very good. In a half morocco and cloth slipcase, spine gilt. During the War of 1812, Andrew Jackson had established martial law during his occupation of New Orleans. State senator Louis Louaillier wrote an article criticizing Jackson's military dictatorship and was arrested; subsequently Judge Dominic Hall objected to Jackson's suspension of habeas corpus and Louaillier's arrest, and Hall was also arrested for treason. Upon his release, Hall fined Jackson the immense sum of $1,000, which was later deemed by several official parties to be an outrageously large fine. This pamphlet, issued during the presidential campaign of 1828, speaks of the injustices perpetrated by Jackson against Louaillier, urging citizens to vote instead for John Quincy Adams (who lost anyway).
