Inscribed and signed by the author on the title page, who has also crossed out one name on the dedication page using the same pen. The author earned his M. A. in 1958 from the University of Michigan. Fine condition.

New Rochelle: Elizabeth Press, 1975. 1st edition, limited (1/400) original printed paperwraps (as issued.) Handsomely designed by Martino Mardersteig and printed from Dante type on Magnani rag paper by Stamperia Valdonega in Verona, Italy. A hint of sunning to spine, else fine.

New York: Harcourt Brace, 1942. 1st edition, full red cloth, with printed dust jacket. The celebrated author's monumental first book, specially signed by Jarrell in ink on the second FEP. Published in an edition of only 1700 copies (Wright A1), seldom are examples found in bright condition. Typically the inferior paper used for the dust jacket (due to the War years) is dry, brittle, and chipped. The present copy is uncommonly bright and fine, and unique with the author's scarce signature.

New York: Harcourt Brace, 1942. 1st edition, full red cloth, with printed dust jacket. The author's monumental first solo book. (Wright A1.) Published in an edition of only 1700 copies, the present volume shows gentle wear and sunning to the jacket. On the inside pastedown is a small printed bookseller's plate from Vanguard Booksellers of Johannesburg. Overall near fine condition.

New York: Dial Press, 1945. 1st edition, full blue cloth, with printed dust jacket. Specially signed and inscribed by poet John Berryman on the FEP. The inscription by Berryman is to "Mary Jane" (Christenson Heming). The inscription reads "Congratulations! / & love / John" and is dated "7 Apr 1947" in black fountain pen ink. We acquired the book from another source indirectly from Mary's family, with the story that Mary had been one of Berryman's girl friends, and that Berryman had once said (in print, apparently) that she had "the most beautiful breasts in the world." The book JOHN BERRYMAN AND THE THIRTIES: A MEMOIR by Ernest Milton Halliday refers to the love affair of Berryman and Heming. A poignant association by Berryman wanting to give a copy of Jarrell's book (a poet whom he greatly admired) as a special gift for some accomplishment in Mary's life.
