Covers are soiled; front cover and subsequent 2 leaves are wrinkled; the first printed leaf has a lengthy closed tear front the top margin into the text but with no loss; front cover is separating; otherwise a clean copy. An account of the movement and skirmishes between British and American troops preceding the Battle of White Plains, from October 11th to 18th, 1776. Namely, General Howe's landing at Throg's Neck and his ailed attempt to encircle Washington's forces and bring the rebellion to an early end.

First leaf toned; contemporary ink numeral at the top of the recto of the first leaf as well as a note, "see West" on the verso of the same leaf and again, the same note on the recto of the first leaf of the second document; otherwise clean. The contents are correspondence and documents related to a treaty between the United States and Sicily requiring compensation for vessels and cargo lost or seized by Joachim Murat between the years 1809 and 1812. There is a two-page table with the list including contents and values.

In publisher's gray cloth with title title on the front cover; frontispiece portrait and two additional portraits of Christian. Cover is somewhat soiled, otherwise a clean, solid copy of this memoir of Stonewall Jackson's daughter. Uncommon. Haynes 9227.

Fairly early catalogues; the broadsides of the latter are folding and includes a note to the subscriber signed by Van Vliet; (2) Broadside prospectuses for Janet Nyholm's "From a Housewife's Diary" (1978) and Margo Lockwood's "Bare Elegy" (1980); (1) Beautiful folding broadside announcement, "Two Thirds of Nineteen Hundred & Seventy-Nine" with four titles, printed in three colors including the large woodcut header that though unattributed seems to be by Helen Siegl from Janus Press's "The Dialogues of Creatures Moralised." A very nice group of catalogues and prospectuses all in exceptional condition.

Illustrated throughout with Schumann's bold illustrations, often repetitiously filling a full page. A striking production in exceptionally nice condition. One of four Bread and Puppets publication issued by Van Vliet. (The Janus Press 1975-1980, p. 48).

Limited edition, number 236 of 300 copies (15 of which are unnumbered, hors commerce). As issued, in heavy paper wrappers with decorations stamped in mauve. A bright copy with little in the way of wear. Eleven Hungarian folk songs translated to be sung by Snodgrass with music and lyrics accompanied by masonite relief cuts by McGowan, these are printed in rose. title and text printed in black, spruce blue, and brown. A very nice and fairly early Janus Press production. Folded prospectus laid in. (Fine, The Janus Press 1975-1980, p. 43-44).

London & West Burke, VT: Gefn Janus Limited, 1998. Soft Cover. Near Fine binding. 16mo. [16] pp., illus. Half-sized facsimile. French-fold accordian book nestled in Thai gold-threaded burgundy paper in a white, lidded box with a pink sleeve titled in black. The original edition has hand-printed lithographs with rubber stamped text and shoe images drawn by Johanknecht. It was issued in 1985 in an edition of 30 copies. This is a bright, fresh copy of O'Callaghan's satirical monologue from the point of view of a shoe addict. Not in Fine, Janus Press -- Fifty Years. Details are taken from a 2006 Janus Press catalog.

Newark, VT: Janus Press. Unbound. An assortment of correspondence from Van Vliet to "Standing Order Patrons." The group includes (8) typed letters signed by "Claire" that accompanied books, one with a customer invoice, the dates range from 1995-2003. (1) photocopied manuscript letter announcing a Galway Kinnell broadside, order slip not included; (3) holiday cards, two with envelopes and postmarks in 1998 and 2000, the third, without envelope is likely contemporary, all are signed and two have generalized well-wishing; (1) manuscript note related to account balances though the tone is very familiar and warm; (1) trifold exhibit mailer for a 2006 Grolier Club exhibition celebrating 50 years of Claire Van Vliet and the Janus Press.

"A comprehensive and very valuable description of the natural history, economic resources, and social condition of Virginia, drawn up in the form of answers to queries presented by Barbe de Marbois. . . .
