Cole, Author". Light brown cloth, stamped in gilt on spine and stamped in gilt and blind on the front panel. Illustrated with numerous engraving; lacking the map (common with this title). The volume is bumped on the front fore-edge and corners, the spine ends are rubbed and lightly abraded, and the spine is gently toned. The front hinge is starting, leaves are lightly toned, and a few leaves have off-setting, apparently from pressed flowers or plants. An uncommon title.

The volume is very lightly bumped at the spine ends and corners. The unclipped dust jacket, sleeved in mylar, has a thin piece of reinforcing tape on the spine tail.

The volume is bumped on the corners and across the top corner of all pages; there is an ink name and Oxford address on the front endpaper. The jacket is clipped on the top front corner (price of $1.75 is present at the bottom front corner) rubbed with some creasing along the edges, and chipped at the spine ends and corners (to a depth of 3/8" on the top front spinew fold). The jacket is now protected in mylar.

Charles Scribner's Sons, 1947. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Illustrated with 393 reproduced images of photographs, sketches, and paintings. The volume is lightly edge rubbed, has some soft foxing on the top edges, and has a bit of an old book smell. The price clipped dust jacket, protected in a sleeve, is rubbed with nicks and abrasions, has a lightly sunned spine, and there is a long scratch and abrasion on the rear panel. The jacket is spot reinforced on the verso with masking tape and the jacket is cut about 1/8" shorter than the book. This is an oversized book. Priority and international mailings will require additional postage.

It appears that Mr. Smith, in ink pen, then made some minor corrections to his own forward. The volume has very light wear to the covers. Near fine and no jacket (as issued?).

The volume is edge rubbed, bumped at the spine ends and corners, has lightly age toned pages, and an erasure on the front endpaper. The unclipped dust jacket, sleeved in mylar, has moisture ripples (seemingly everywhere except the spine), closed tears, and some creases.

The once read volume has gently pushed spine ends and there is some offsetting on the rear endpaper from two laid in articles. The volume is bumped at the spine ends and corners and has an ink signature of Jane Newhall, Jr. (mother of benefactor Jane Newhall) on the front endpaper. The unclipped dust jacket is edge rubbed with creasing and chips (to a depth of 3/8" at the top front spine joint), and, additionally, has a narrow 1/2" triangular shaped chip on the spine below the author's name. The jacket is now sleeved in mylar.

The uniformly clipped dust jacket is sun washed on the spine, lightened on the front and rear panels, toned on the top of the flaps, and lightly chipped on the top corners and spine crown. The jacket is sleeved in mylar.

1990. First Edition. Softcover. Very Good. Signed. This is a 32 page booklet with 19 pages of watercolors. Text, except for the introduction page and two excerpts (one from the White House during Ronald Regan's administration), is in Chinese. Inscribed and SIGNED by Yeh Jau Liu on the introductory page. The covers hav e some rubbins and the perimeters are sun washed. There is light perimeter toning on the interior pages.

London: Simpkin, Marshall, Hamilton, Kent & Co. Ltd, 1896. Hardcover. Very Good. Blueish, green cloth, gilt lettering, beveled edges. Frontis of Richard Jefferies. 210 pages with 2 pages of ads. Many pages are uncut. Mild edgewear with a split in the cloth, the depth of the bevel, at the top front gutter. Spine is age toned and the spine lettering is somewhat subdued. The interior has a small number notation at the top left corner of the front pastdown. Mild age toning to the page perimeters.

Longmans Green, 1889. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Limited to 200 copies of which this is # 45. There is some adbrading to the edges and the spine is somewhat darkened. The tissue guard over the frontis picture of Jefferies is foxed and torn but the portrait is unblemished. Some pages unopened. Overall, near very good.

Random House, 1946. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/No Jacket. Signed. First printing, second state w/"least" on line 21, pg. 99. Inscribed (to poet and filmmaker, James Broughton), SIGNED, and place dated (Tor House, Carmel, July 5, 1946) by Robinson Jeffers on the front endpaper. The volume is gently pushed on the spine ends and there is a touch of soiling on the rear panel.

Printed for Mathew Carey, Philadelphia, 1794. Second Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Bound in modern leather, with gilt ruled spine compartments and gilt stamped lettering on burgundy background. This copy has the fold out chart of Indian tribes and the one page map of Madison's cave, but does NOT have the folding map of Virginia. The volume is bumped on the bottom corners and has some surface rubbing and scratches. The interior has a few creased corners (with imprints on neighboring leaves), some page waviness, and the fold out chart is chipped and torn where it sticks out past the fore-edge and the second fold has lengthy tears although it is holding together. The ownership name of Amasa Stetson is penned to the top of the first page of the text.

James R. Osgood and Company, 1877. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Signed. Tipped in is a clipped SIGNATURE of Sarah O. Jewett. Light brown cloth with front panel and spine stamped in black and gilt. All edges gilt. Tissue guarded title page in black and red. First issue (or second, as there appears to be no differentiation between the two, BAL 10871) with "was" as the last word in line 16 on page 65 (changed to "so" in third and later printings). The volume is lightly edge rubbed, with a gently toned spine and occasional soiling. The front hinge is just starting and there is mild foxing to the preliminary and terminal pages. An ink name and date is penned to the second endpaper. Overall, a very good copy of the author's first book.
