This would have been distributed to people who matter in the trade, special customers, sale reps, influencers of all sorts. Copies with the fragile glassine dust jacket intact are uncommon. This copy is additionally unusual in that it also has the standard first edition jacket as well, added who knows when-upon publication or possibly by a prior owner. One of Irving's most highly regarded works, it was the basis for the 1999 film for which Irving won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. The film garnered seven Academy Award nominations in all.
