Description:
Hardcover edition with dust jacket, published by Alfred A. Knopf, 1956. This is the American Book Club Edition from 1956. The dust jacket is intact and has the 'Book Club Edition' note printed on the lower corner of the front flap. The dust jacket has been protected with a clear, removable, cover - however, a former owner taped it to the boards with narrow strips of masking tape - tape is still attached to the boards. Jacket shows some light edge wear at the head and heel of the spine, and a closed tear of about 1-1/2 inch at the lower left. Dust jacket has the wonderful vintage illustration on the front by John O'Hara Cosgrave II, and the author photo and bio on the back. Light blue-gray colored boards are flat and show just some light edge wear to the head and heel of the spine. The first six pages of the text have a large crease at the top right corner - from the title page through to the first two of the text pages - it's about a 2 inch diagonal crease. Yellow topstain does not appear to be…

American hardcover edition, published by Knopf, 1960. Aubrey George Grant is a Welsh lawyer, while on a business trip in the Middle East he finds himself caught up in a violent struggle over a newly discovered oil field. 310 pages, beige and green colored boards, 5-7/8" X 8-1/2" The dust jacket is intact, though it is price clipped, and it does have several short tears and chips, and edge wear at the spine. The dust jacket has been covered with a removable, clear book cover. Not marked as such, but this copy would appear to be the book club edition, considering the type of paper stock used. Also, a slightly smaller type font is used on club edition at this time, so the number of pages is a bit less than the true first which has 340 pages. This is not a library discard, not a remainder copy. The binding is intact and tight with all text pages tightly bound. No writing on the text, no former ownership marks. Age tanning to the edges of the text block.. The attached photo is of the copy we…
