" In 1713 and 1714, by appointment of the archbishop, he preached the Boyle lectures, and replied to Anthony Collins's ëDiscourse of Free-thinking in matters of Religion.í George I appointed him one of his chaplains-in-ordinary in 1716, and when his majesty visited Cambridge on 6 Oct. 1717 Ibbot was, by royal mandate, created D.D. He was appointed preacher-assistant to Dr. Samuel Clarke at St. James's, Westminster, and rector of St. Paul's, Shadwell; and on 26 Nov. 1724 was installed a prebendary of Westminster. He died at Camberwell on 5 April 1725, and was buried in Westminster Abbey" (DNB).

Ichikawa Beian was, along with Maki Ryoko and Nukina Suuou, was one of the three great calligraphers of the Edo period. He was an instructor to the upper class and produced a number of books on instruction and demonstration. This text demonstrates a variety of script styles.

Beloit, WI: Beloit Poetry Journal, 1963. Staple-bound booklet, 8.5 x 5.5 inches, pp. 48; pictorial paper wrappers; light wear to covers, annotations in pen throughout, overall very good. Although not stated, this is from the library of Israel "Izzy" Young, former owner of the Folklore Center in Greenwich Village, New York. The annotations in the book are his, and are severely critical of the poetry within: the note on the inside back cover reads, "I can't believe Williams begot only imitators."

Second edition after that of 1916; 12mo, pp. [4], 123, [1], 14, [2], 7, [5]; text in triple column; fine copy in brown leather lettered in gilt on spine, in a near fine dust jacket. The Ryukyuan languages (also Lewchewan or Luchuan) are the indigenous languages of the Ryukyu Islands, the southernmost part of the Japanese archipelago. Upsala, 1766. First edition of the first dictionary of Swedish dialect, based on the collections of Benzelius, sm. 4to, pp. [12], 200; text in double column; some wear along the spine, but a nice copy in original drab paper wrappers. This is Ihre's first major work; he would later assemble, with Sven Hof and Abraham Sahlstedt, the Glossarium Suiogothicum (1769), a work highly praised by Jamieson, and of which Boucher said: "One of the best dictionaries of any language in Europe; it is a masterpiece of criticism and erudition."

First edition, 8vo, pp. [2], iv, [2],146; recent red cloth, gilt lettering direct on spine; original printed wrappers bound in; very good. Preliminary matter in both English and Japanese. The catalogue, in English throughout, contains only books in languages other than Japanese, and largely published in England and America.

Tokyo: Taitou Shoin Shuppanbu, 1932. Second edition, 8vo, pp. [10], 220, [2]; text printed in red and black; full green cloth; spine sunned, the occasional small ink stain on the margins, a few pages annotated in pencil, very good. A wide-ranging reference of Japanese calligraphy, starting with basic strokes and moving on to examples with notes of common characters in kaisho, kyousho, and sousho styles, hiragana and hentaigana, examples of calligraphy for letters, fans and other occasions, and a section on writing with pen. The second edition was published just three months after the first, but no copies of any edition appear to exist in OCLC. One copy of a much later 1966 edition is attributed to Kakei Fujita in OCLC. While Fujita may have contributed the calligraphy to this edition, we could not find his name anywhere in this text.

Tow Kyow [i.e. Tokyo]: Kaiseidow [et al.], n.d., 1888. 8vo, 3 parts in 1, as issued; pp. [2], 81, [1], [148], [174]; contains approx. 50 pages of illustration of the lips and mouth showing the positions of same for the pronunciation of different letters, syllables, and words; internally with some page browning; original printed wrappers, small tears on upper cover, one with loss at the top but touching no letterpress; spine perished. Not found in OCLC.

Madras: South India Saiva Siddhanta Works Publishing Society, 1961. First edition, 12mo, pp. [2], vi, [2], 256; spine faded, evidence of sticker removal on spine; all else very good in original red cloth. The author was head of the Department of Tamil, Thyagarajar College in Madurai.

Chérence [France], 2008. Edition limited to 10 copies (this is no. 3), square 12mo, 17 double-page spreads, Leporello-style, showing a long drypoint etching; fine in white paper wrappers, printed paper labels on upper cover and spine, marbled slipcase; fine. The etching is meant to be "read" as a roaming through a gigantic fleamarket in search of a unique object which is found at last in the final panel.
