A succession of letters, printed in double column with a translation into French, concerning the birth of George II's grandson and the rift between the King and his son Frederick, who had insisted on his wife giving birth in St. James's Palace. Straining an already bad relationship, this prompted the family's expulsion from St. James's Palace and making their eventual home a centre for Whig opposition. Rothschild 140.

Some black and white photographic illustrations to the first work, both volumes predominantly feature illustrations of Ibanez's colour paintings. Very good.

London: William Heinemann, 1895.. One of 60 large paper copies - this copy marked "not for sale", square 8vo, (xvi), 256 pp. Frontispiece showing Elizabeth Robins in character. Unopened in the original printed wrappers, slightly soiled, ends bumped, but in unusually good condition due to the presence of the original tissue wrapper, this browned and marked with some loss. Originally published in English two years previously.

Recent brown half calf over old marbled boards, spine with raised bands, gilt lettered label. Very good. A fascinating and statistically rich collection of official papers relating to the company's accounts between Britain and the sub-continent at probably the height of its powers. The first of the larger sections covers the "possible resources" plus the annual revenues and civil & military charges for the three Presidencies and centres of commerce: Bengal (Fort William), Madras (Fort St. George) and Bombay with a few brief sections on Fort Marlborough (Indonesia), St Helena and the factory at Canton.
