London: Macmillan, 1892]. This is the text of Bastian's Presidential Address to the Neurological Society of London. Very good condition.

London: John Ouseley, [1912]. First edition.. cat40a. Later binding of buff cloth, spine lettered in black. Fading of cloth, some wear to edges, and a tear along the rear hinge has been repaired with glue. Internally clean, a very good copy in general. An earlier binding of black cloth exists. A dream novel of an ancient civilization. See Locke: Spectrum of Fantasy I for a description. Apparently this allegorical tale foretold the Great War in some respects. Quite scarce.

Montreal: Lovell, 1874. First edition.. Original brown cloth stamped in blind, spine and front cover lettered in gilt. Brown coated end papers. Considerable wear to spine and corners, the back cover and last couple of leaves stained, foxing to early and late leaves; generally a very good copy otherwise. An undated ownership inscription on the front end paper is from Richmond, P.Q. A novel set in Canada, mainly in a village called Elmwood in Quebec. It has been postulated that this author is the same Harriet S. Caswell [1834-1909] who was the author of "Our Life Among the Iroquois Indians" (Boston, 1892); however, recent research suggests another possibility in the person of one Henry Sheldon Caswell, a schoolteacher who lived in Sherbrooke, Quebec, and died in 1900. In any case, a scarce book.

Boston: Lee and Shepard/NY: Dillingham, 1880. First edition.. cat40a. Blue decorative cloth designed and lettered in black and gilt. Brown coated end papers. Ownership sticker on inner front cover, glue repair to inner front hinge, some wear to tips and spine extremities, a bright very good copy in general. Wright III: 2050. An owner's note in the front suggests that this novel concerns witchcraft, but a quick scan does not reveal any such content - it looks to be primarily a novel of historical adventure.

Leslie: R.W. Brown, Globe House, 1889. First edition. . 26pp. Original pale green printed wrappers, sewn. Chipping at edges, tears to lower rear cover and last leaf, generally very good. Biographical info and a selection from the works of this Scottish poet. Uncommon.

Edmonton: The Author, (1925). First edition.. Original mottled paper boards, front cover lettered in gilt. Light wear at the top of the spine, splitting along the front hinge, but a nice clean copy. Inscribed from the author, dated Edmonton, 1936. In blank verse, Leaver postulates that Jasper was the killer in Charles Dickens' EDWIN DROOD.

London: Java Head Bookshop, 1932. First edition.. Fine. Yellow printed boards, cloth spine with paper label. Illustrated with plates. Slight discoloration of end papers, faint wear to the spine label, a fine copy. Laid in is the original sales receipt from Bertram Rota dated 1932, also a customs form for the book's importation into San Francisco. A mostly unopened copy. This is the special edition, copy #28 of 165 numbered copies.

London: The Hogarth Press, 1929. First edition. Gray-blue boards, green cloth spine, printed paper label on spine. Light foxing to end papers, faint edge wear, a nice clean copy in a slightly worn & rubbed dust jacket, lacking a piece from the lower spine, a bit chipped at corners.

Berlin, etc.: Mouton de Gruyter, 1988.. 826pp. White cloth lettered in red. A bit of dust soiling, scrape on spine, ownership stamp on front end paper, about fine. Photographic portrait of Mary Haas at page [vi]. Thirty-six papers presented at the Festival Conference in Santa Cruz in June, 1986.

London: Jarrolds, 1897. Seventh Edition.. cat40a. Green decorative cloth designed in red, white, gilt and black. Tan end papers. End papers browned, light edge wear, but quite an attractive copy. Humorous novel of a woman changed into a baby, and later rejuvenated.

Chicago & NY: Neely, 1895.. Original yellow pictorial wrappers designed and lettered in black. Light chipping at base of spine, modest overall wear, a decent very good copy. Issued as No. 40 in Neely's Popular Library. First published by Chatto in 1887 as a three-decker, this is an uncommon American reprint.

London: Cecil Palmer, (1926). First edition. . Tan cloth lettered in red & black. Frontispiece. Spine a bit darkened, some spots and nicks to cloth, page edges spotty, a very good copy. Celtic and Gaelic tales of the Isle of Man, folkloristic.

NY: Parlor Car Publishing Co., 1895.. Original pictorial wrappers, stapled. Chipped at spine and edges (affecting part of the series title at the top), front cover and first leaf detached, very good otherwise. Paper is very yellowed and brittle = fragile. Issued as No. 41 in the series: Old Sleuth's Own. December 16, 1895. Worldcat cites a copy in the McManus-Young Collection at the Library of Congress, with an imprint of Ogilvie, 1895. The Ogilvie edition also issued the book as No. 41 in its Old Sleuth's Own series, and it has a copyright notice citing the Parlor Car Publishing Co., suggesting that this Parlor Car edition precedes. An entry in Cox's Dime Novel Companion suggests that Parlor Car was owner by George Munro, and that Ogilvie reprinted a number of the books in this series. Very scarce in either original edition.

NY: George Munro's Sons, 1899.. cat40a. 146pp. Rebound in green cloth, diagonally lettered on the front cover in gold. Covers soiled and stained, paper very browned, a rough copy. Probably this was originally issued in wrappers. Listed by Hubin, who cites the ROYAL edition of 1897. An uncommon title.

This title listed in Hubin under 'Anonymous', citing only "Aldine" for a publisher, presumably referring to a British edition. According to ads in the rear of another book, this title was issued as #98 in The Magnet Library. Halsey also wrote as OLD SLEUTH.

Dublin: Printed by T. Bathe, 1781.. Disbound, remnants of binding clinging to the spine. 12mo. [(A - C) in 12's, D in 4; wanting D4). Lacking the final leaf, D4, which prints the end of the Epilogue poem. Chipping to edges of early and late leaves, some mss. notes on the final leaf, very good generally. One of two Dublin editions of 1781, preceding the London, Authorized, edition of 1782. The play became popular in 19th Century England, and was a favoritte of the actress Ellen Terry. Lacking the final leaf, sold with all faults.

[Chicago: Hardesty, c.1884].. A colour lithographed map, double-page, from a Hardesty Atlas of 1884. Page numbers are 30/31. The verso prints views of Rome and The Holy Land. Old dampstains to edges of margins, a few short marginal tears at top, chipped at upper left affecting page number, clean and attractive generally. Imprint of Rand, McNally & Co., Chicago, at lower right. NWT, Keewatin; Manitoba shown very small; "Vast Region Of Excellent Farming Lands" across Saskatchewan / Assiniboia.

Ottawa: Imprimerie du Gouvernement, 1916. Pictorial printed wrappers. 16 photographic plates of mainly tools, ornaments and arrowheads found in Southern British Columbia. Spine partly chipped away, old stain to lower edge at rear, some wrinkling, very good. Text in French. Issued by the Musee de la Commission Geologique Canada.
