(8 3/8" x 5 1/2"); in the publishers blue cloth binding, with titling in gilt to the spine; 324 pages; a copy deaccessioned from the Library of Congress, with the usual library marks, including a discreet perforated "LC" on the title page.~~Krick sums up what we need to know about the book, if not the battle: "This is the only sizable work on this relatively small action, which took place in Missouri in September 1864. The authors admit that "a rather novel arrangement of material has been made." There are some preliminary materials to provide perspective and set the stage, but the body the work is given up to a virtually undigested patchwork of original accounts, most of them from the Federal viewpoint."~~ (Krick 380).
