Contemporary marbelled boards with leather, gilt lettered, banded spine (legible), with fairly tight bindings and original endpapers. The description corresponds to the 1824 edition held at the British Library (via online KVK catalogue). This is a large, heavy 11 inch 4to, xxx, 175pp, errata page, all 107 plates (b&w, with occasional hand colored outlines). The plates include topographical maps of regions, battle plans, equipment, views and more. Some are fairly decorative, some folding, all in very good condition (one or two of the folding plates are a bit chipped where they extend a bit beyond the outer edge). Rebound with new endpapers, modern brown cloth (bindings tight) with gilt lettered spines., vol. 1: 1-333, vol. 2: 334-635 (complete text, with full list of plates and maps). All of the 51 plates and maps bound in are present, and some of the folding maps are detailed. There is some foxing to several of the plates, but not generally severe. There is 1 of the 2 large folding maps in the front pocket (these maps are often absent altogether). The one present here is designated as Map 1: Sketch Map of Somaliland, with image measuring 14.5x19.5 inches, in fine condition.These volumes detail the history of the British campaigns against Mahammad Abdille Hasan (the "Mad Mullah"). This is a major reference for the historical cartography and geography of this region. Binding tight. Cartobiblography with extensive references at end of book by Joan Winearls. This is part of 'The Ontario Historical Studies Series', and was intended as a contribution to the bicentennial celebaration. Oblong elephant folio 284 pp, full list of maps, explanations with each plate (many full page, about half in color), with explanations of abbreviations and map citations. This is a very handsome book from the collaboration of numerous experts. . Signed by Author. First Edition. Cloth. Elephant Folio - over 15" - 23" tall.

Has 5 facsimle maps: A Map of the Indian walking Purchase, A Map of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York..., A Revision of the 1752 Edition of this foregoing Map of 1749, Evans'[ Map of the Middle Atlantic Region..for Peter Kalm..., A Map of the Area in dispute between Pennsylvania and Maryland..., A general Map of the Middle British Colonies.... All the facisimiles are in near fine condition except for an early crease separation on the first map. The edges are a little browned and the cover is a bit bumped and rubbed, but the binding is sound. Gipson was with Lehigh University at the time.. Cloth. Edinburgh: Edmonston and Douglas , 1869. Original dark blue cloth covers scuffed and rubbed; inner hinges starting; small pasted library label at base of spine with upper spine chipped; bookplate of The Minnesota Historical Society on front paste-down, which is beginning to separate. Binding is reasonably tight. Glennie was a barrister and a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. This book was apparently a part of a larger series of essays, though none other are present here. This book was apparently the first installment. There is a small dedication signature on the top of the title page, dated 1872. There are 140 pp of text, followed by the "First Report" of the Chaucer Society (4 pp) including the current membership list, followed by 20 pp of advertisements. This discusses a long period of intellectual dormancy, if not outright decline, in the study of geography in France from the late 18th until the late 19th century. Whether one agrees or not with her analysis, this is a carefully disclosed and argued presenatation, clearly written and very well referenced. She discusses elements pertaining to physical, human and historical geography.. First Edition. Cloth. As New. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Berlin, 1927. Published by the author. Two volumes, with some dampstaining to the lower portion of the text volume only. The text itself is clean, and there is no dampstaining to the plate volume. Original quarter vellum (gilt-lettered spines) and brown cloth boards. Two 15.75 inch folio volumes. The thinner of the two is the text volume (91 pp.), which has the translations in English, the final page of which is "a selected list of maps on which is indicated the line of demarcation," by E.l. Stevenson. These volumes discuss the four papal bulls of Alexander VI, and also disscuss the Treaty of Tordesillas. The plates volume (130 plates) contains introductions to, and transliterations and translations of the original Latin texts of the bulls and treaty, along with relevant map images. These bulls are discussed as the "earliest diplomatic documents in the history of America," and certainly among the most important. The DJ is present, but with several marginal tears, and a longer tear at the spine. xxxii, 148 pp. This does not have a map portfolio, but is loaded with maps, portraits and manuscript reproductions (in b&w). This is a fine piece of New England history, with a nice bibliography, and increasingly uncommon.. First Edition. Cloth. Very Good/Fair.
