Title page, 201 pp. Later green buckram with gilt title on the spine. = An important review of the world wide distribution of Cretaceous Mollusca, with synonymies, compiled by the American palaeontologist and malacologist William More Gabb (1839-1878). Although not stated, this is an offprint from the Proceedings of the American Philosophical Society. Inscribed by Gabb on the front wrapper, being a dedication to a Dr Buckley, about whom we do not known anything else yet. Small stamp of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) in the top margin of the front free endpaper recto and front wrapper. Repair to front wrapper edges; small stain to the lower margin of the first few leaves, otherwise very good.

Later black buckram with gilt title on the spine. Original printed wrappers bound in. = One of the last papers by the American palaeontologist William More Gabb (1839-1878). It contains descriptions of Mesozoic Peruvian faunas, largely consisting of gastropods, ammonites and bivalves, collected by the Italian-Peruvian geologist Antonio Raimundi (1826-1890). One plate shows bivalves and brachiopods, another shows echinoderms. Many species were new. Although dated 1877 on the front wrapper, publication was delayed until February 1881 (Groves and Squires, p. 130). The first two were published in 1913, numbers 3-5 in 1914-1914, and the sixth to eleventh in 1916-1921. The original parts are very rare, therefore this compilation, using the original text and plates was issued in 1923. The original pagination was retained too. Uncut. Wrappers a bit discoloured, otherwise a very good (near mint), clean copy.

Leipzig, L. A. Kittler, 1906. 8vo (23.1 x 14.9 cm). 175 pp. Original printed wrappers. = Heinrich Gaetke, or Gätke (1814-1897) was a German ornithologist and painter. "In 1837 he travelled to the island of Heligoland for the first time. From 1841 he decided to live there and from 1843 he studied birds on the island. He studied ornithology and made a collection. In 1891 a station was established in Heligoland and the Prussian government acquired his collection for the North sea museum. The collection was destroyed in 1944 by a bombing (Wikipedia). One chapter, written by the German lepidopterologist Adalbert Seitz, deals with Gätke's studies on butterflies and moths. Published as Sonderheft to the 54th volume of the famous Journal für Ornithologie. Rare. Uncut. Old owner's inscription in front wrapper's top margin. Wrappers partly creased and chipped in the margins, spine near-perished, otherwise a very good copy. Not in any major bibliography.

Folio (31.2 x 24.6 cm). 68 [I-XLIII, XLIVa, XLIVb, XLV-LXVII] mostly double-sized engraved plates. 19th-century cloth with two red morocco labels with gilt title on the spine. = Written by the professor of mining, Moritz Ferdinand Gaetzschmann (1800-1895). This is the atlas only. Both the text volume and atlas are rare. Many figures show furnaces, giant drills, and other mining devices. No title page included, probably not issued. Plates XXI-XL show old folds - apparently they were intended for an octavo edition. Library stamp on the front flyleaf recto. Several plates spotted - stronger in a few, or toned, otherwise very good. Not in any major bibliography.
