Three volumes: viii, (2), 376; viii, 328; viii, 312 pp. George Barr McCutcheon's copy of "The Man of Property," with his engraved bookplate on the front pastedown, his long manuscript assessment of the book on the verso of the title page, and an autograph letter to him, from Galsworthy, tipped to the dedication leaf; an additional four pieces of correspondence, relating to the book's ownership by a later collector, are laid in. NP: np, 1839. Partially printed broadside, measuring 12 x 8 in., completed in manuscript. Signed by William Wood, Circuit Attorney. Docketted on verso. Creased from folding in quarters(as for filing), some shallow tears along edges, not affecting text; bottom quarter of broadside (containing one printed word, and the attorney's signature) had separated from the rest of the broadside, and been carefully reattached. The printing type impressed into the paper, leaving a raised impression on verso. Devenport was accused of playing and betting on a game of chance, using playing cards, "against the form of the Statute in such case made and provided, and against the peace and dignity of the State."

NP: T. W. Ingersoll, 1905. Color stereoview, 7 x 3 ½ inches, two photographic images, mounted side by side, on card stock, picturing a well-dressed hunter, shotguns at his side, sitting at the wheel of his period automobile; long caption verso describing the advantages of hunting from an automobile rather than a horse. Pencil markings at bottom of left image, the mount rubbed. Still a good copy.

[NP: np, 1932. 22.5 cm. 32pp. Brown wrappers. Bookplate removed inside front cover. Six Guns 793: "Rare. A little known book containing some material on the Mason County War and Scott Cooley." Thomas Gamel was born in Willcox County, Alabama in 1846, and moved to Texas with his family in 1850. Gamel recounts his memories of the "Hoodoo War of 1872," also called the Mason County War, among other stories of early Texas history.

Second edition (first published Little Rock in the same year; incorrectly given as 1860 by Howes). 8vo. 29 pp. After a mediocre performance at Island No. 10 in 1862, Gantt failed to receive another command; in 1863 he turned Union loyalist, attacking Albert Pike and others, and "denouncing Jefferson Davis, Negro slavery, secession, and the Confederacy in good round terms." The address became very popular in the north. Heartman 120, 720: "Blaming the misfortunes of Arkansas on Hindman and Johnson ... and viciously attacking Jeff Davis and Judah P. Benjamin, Gantt calls upon his people to admit defeat and resume its position in the Union." Howes G-57. Old library blindstamp, with "duplicate" stamp; a little foxed, but very good.
