UPI, 1958. Very Good. Original black-and-white press photograph of model Lorraine Vigil, "who fought off an attempted assault by Harvey Glatman, 30, on the shoulder of the Santa Ana Freeway..." and eventually aided in the apprehension of Glatman, "the man who is believed to have strangled three other women." Glatman was an American serial killer who posed as a professional photographer and placed want-ads for models to appear in popular magazines, took snapshot photos of his victims in an attempt to replicate what he saw in favorite detective and crime magazines. Vigil was his fourth victim, and second Latina kidnapped by Glatman, and led to the apprehension of Glatman, who readily confessed to killing 3 women after posing them in lingerie, high heels, rope, and was executed by gas at San Quentin in 1959. 7 x 9 inches, small white border. Very Good Plus overall, faint toning, brief notation and "N.E.A." rubber-stamp on the verso.

Marr Publishers / Phoebe Publishers / Burmel, 1950s. Very Good. Two vintage adult digest magazines featuring voluptuous women, posing seminude & emphasizing their natural assets, w/ heels, hose, garters, notably Pamela Green as Rita Landre. Hundreds of similar digest magazines were produced by fly-by-night operations, mainly around New York, notably Burmel Publishing (Lenny Burtman's enterprise). Many were published as photography and/or art "studies" booklets, w/ technical camera data, exposure chart, & the standard emphasis on sexual liberation; early issues featured several models per issue & many maintain airbrushing techniques rolled over from nudist magazines, much of the posing naturally obscures otherwise censored areas. Skidmore College, 1937. Very Good. Hand-written letter from father to daughter Agnes Gregson, dated 1937. The purpose of the letter seems simply to shame the daughter into dressing more appropriately so as not to incur any more physical ailments, like piles. He states: "I am very much disturbed to hear you have piles...cannot help but feel this has been brought on by your own carelessness and disregard of advice, your habit of going around half clothed has undoubtedly brought them on plus possibly the fact you are constipated...see the nurse...have yourself attended to...commence immediately to clothe yourself properly, I don't want ever to see your legs bare right up to your backside again, if you won't look after your self properly I will bring you home." Presuably, Agnes attended Skidmore College in the 1930s, and graduated from high school in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where her father lived and worked for the American Chain Company, noted on the envelope. An item indicative of mid-century parenting ... Read more
