Description:
HATFIELD BOOKS AND MEMORABILIA, a FIVE STAR SELLER, presents a very unusual NEAR FINE copy of the FIRST EDITION of A FIELD GUIDE TO THE MAMMALS. The ORIGINAL DUST JACKET illustrates the evolution of the Cat family (with a mole? At the top edge); this dust jacket seems to indicate first edition (though title and copyright pages are missing, and were never part of the book); book begins with page xvi "My Life List." No evidence of any page separation; while small print under it says "giving field marks of all species found north of the Mexican border," the title is exactly as above without the words "North of Mexico." 4 ¾ x 7 3/8", 200 pp. (incl. Index), color illustrations, b/w maps, animal tracks on endpapers. Book condition is Near Fine: foxing at edge of some pages, no marks, tight and clear. Jacket condition is good: four solid chips, tape marks at bottom of each fold.
