Among his greater works may be named The Last Honors paid to Counts Egmont and Horn by the Corporations of the Town of Brussels, now at Tournai; The Death of Egmont, in the Berlin gallery; the Coronation of Baudouin, Emperor of Constantinople, painted for Versailles; The Temptation of St Anthony, in the palace at Brussels; The Siege of Antioch, Art and Liberty, Portrait of M. B. Dumortier and The Plague at Tournay, all in the Brussels gallery. A Gipsy Woman and her Children was painted in 1852. He also served as the director and president of the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts.

Camberwell, undated. 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, in good condition. Henry Gastineau (1790-1876), landscape painter, art teacher, and friend of J.M.W.Turner. He was a regular contributor of drawings to topographical publications. These included eighteen subjects for T. K. Cromwell's Excursions in the County of Kent (1822), thirteen scenes for W. H. Ireland's History of Kent (4 vols., 1829–30), numerous views for Jones & Co.'s Wales Illustrated in a Series of Views (2 vols., 1830–31), and, as late as 1860, he contributed nineteen works to John Tillotson's Picturesque Scenery in Wales.

Milan, undated. In French. 2 pp. 8 x 5 inches, fine. Charles-Théophile Gaudin (1822-1866), Swiss paleontologist known for his research in the field of paleobotany. He studied theology in Lausanne, afterwards spending several years in England as tutor to the family of Lord Ashley. He then returned to Switzerland, where he concentrated on paleontological studies. In 1854 he began work as a tutor to Gabriel de Rumine, the son of Catherine de Rumine, with whom he founded the Musée industriel de Lausanne in 1862.

Description:
Given at Our Court at Windsor Castle, 2 January 1826. 5 pp. 12 x 8 inches, tied by blue ribbon, Royal wafer seal affixed. In superb condition. Light horizontal folds. King George IV (reigned 1820-1830). Sir Charles Stuart (1779-1845), diplomat, who was of great service to the Duke of Wellington in the Peninsular War, had a second term as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Portugal and Brazil in 1825-26. The King appoints Stuart and Chamberlain as “Our undoubted Commissioners, Procurators and Plenipotentiaries”. Stuart was already Envoy to Brazil for King John VI of Portugal and has signed the Treaty recognising the independence of Brazil on 19 August 1825. George Canning (1770-1827), Prime Minister from April 1827, signs as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.

Each slip about 4 x 5 inches, very fine, all enclosed within a red morocco box, borders gilt, upper cover initalled L.J. in gilt, spine labelled ERINNERUNG.[Memory], marbled wrapper. Liber Amicorum: ‘book of friends’, an early form of autograph book, originating in Germany in the 16th century. This is an early nineteenth century equivalent, comprising slips of paper contained in a morocco box. Noted signatures include Joseph Moses, F.Wercker, Theodor Borchardt, Jacob Berend Cohen, Philippine and Caroline Jaffe, Emma Hirsch, M.Lehmann.
