A fine copy. Garman (1850-1907) was a legendary philosophy professor at Amherst. A philosopher of the neo-Hegelian school, he displayed originality in his teaching methods, focusing on presenting problems and forcing students to think their way through them, a process he considered preferable to text book study. His students also included Robert Sessions Woodworth and Frederick J.E. Woodbridge.
