Description:
London: Cassell, 1937. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. Colonial Edition. Publisher's black boards with mauve spine lettering. A near fine copy in a D/W that is VG indeed with a few minor, insignificant chips to the cream portion of the spine (in the top 1/3rd or so) just affecting the final letter of the author's surname. A nice copy of an uncommon title. Scans invited. This copy looks much nicer than it sounds. Chesterton's final collection of detective stories (published after his death in 1936). Of the eight mysteries, seven were first printed in the Storyteller magazine.

Description:
London: Sphere, 2015. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. First UK Edition. VARIANT COPY. A very fine and apparently rare 1st printing (full number string)/1st state example of Career of Evil by Robert Galbraith (J K Rowling), 2015, which has all the called for issue points. A bibliographical note: there were 250 signed copies, copyright J K Rowling. Other than being unsigned this copy appears identical to those: copyright J. K. Rowling and with the quotes to the lower panel in white with the sources printed in gold beneath. The vast majority of 1st printings appear to be copyright Robert Galbraith Ltd and in a second state jacket, which doesn't include sources for the quotes. The most likely explanation is that the first printing included a presumably small number of additional copies, over and above the 250, which were subsequently offered for sale There is a BBC Radio 2 Book Club sticker to the upper panel of this one (I've seen one other such) but this is the true trade first,…

Description:
London: Werner Laurie, 1929. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. First UK Edition. The VG book is firmly bound in clean red cloth lettered and bordered in black, the extremities are slightly bumped and rubbed. The text block is age toned and foxed with minor marks. The D/W is the original and is priced 7/6 net to the spine (as called for). The VG D/W is slightly rubbed, grubby and marked, with minor nicks and short closed tears to the edges, some repaired or strengthened to the reverse with small pieces of archival tape. A deliberately controversial title from Gallichan, a journalist for the Daily Mail, promoter of sex education and a strong eugenics advocate. NB: The D/W says: "Sterilization and the Unfit" whereas the title page says: "Sterilization of the Unfit". Bizarre and disturbingly one of the foundations of the Nazi philosophy. Rare. Photographs/scans available upon request.

London: Michael Joseph, 1941. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. First UK Edition. Publisher's cream buckram with blue ink lettering and designs on the spine and front board. A short inscription to the front free end-paper (To A.M. Claye, Xmas 1941) and a touch of foxing to the fore-edge else VG+. The VG++ dustwrapper is priced 5/- net to the inside flap (as called for) with miniscule creasing and surface rubbing to the tip and tail of the spine. The spine is age-toned and slightly faded. Overall a much nicer copy than normally seen of Gallico's classic story of friendship set amidst the horrors of World War II. Winner of the 1941 O. Henry Prize and adapted multiple times to film, television, and the stage. N.B: basis for the 1971 BBC adaptation of the same name as well as several narrations by household names accompanied by music. Photographs/scans available upon request.

Description:
A VG copy with the original sleeve in its original cover. Side One is the Blood Donor perhaps the best loved of all Hancock episodes. 'A pint, why that's very nearly an armful!' protests our public-spirited hero when he decides 'to give so others can live'. And, as with any ordinary bank, Hancock discovers that the deposit can be all-too-quickly followed by sudden withdrawal. Side 2 is The Radio Ham: 'Mayday! Mayday!' A motor yacht is holed beneath the waterline off the coast of Sierra Leone. The good news for the stricken vessel is that it's desperate messages have been picked up by a keen radio ham in England. The bad news is that it's the lad himself at the receiving end. This album is uniquely signed by Ray Galton, Alan Simpson and June Whitfield (who played the nurse in the Blood Donor). Galton and Simpson were, of course, the writers of these comedic masterpieces. Incidentally this is the first time in the history of…

London: Allen & Unwin, 1934. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. First UK Edition. Publisher's yellow cloth with black lettering to the front board and spine. A bookseller's ticket to the rear paste-down, slight darkening to the spine and some foxing to the page block edges but still overall a VG copy. In the RARE D/W priced 5s net to the inside flap (as called for). The fair D/W has a slither of loss at the head of the spine (not affecting any lettering) and a larger chip to the bottom 1/2 of the spine removing the publisher's name and crest at the base of the spine. The effect of the chip to the spine has been disguised by laying behind paper of a roughly similar colour. A rare book either in or out of a D/W.
