A prize binding: blue leather bound (calf leather) with a gilt embossed red title block. Marbled endpapers and marbled fore-edges. The binding dates to 1938 with a Bowden House School, Seaford prize for scholarship bookplate dated July 1938 and pasted to the front endpaper. Fold-out family plate present and all there but with additional creases. Slight rubbing to the head of the spine and some light rubbing to the tail of the spine. Some light marking to the leather of the boards. A very good, clean, tight copy.

A scarce copy. Gilt embossed lettering to the spine. Original publishers cloth with a short tear of 0.5 cm to the head of the spine. Bump to the tail of the spine and a light bump to one corner and a couple of slight bumps to the front edge of the front board. Slight rubbing to the edges of the spine strip. Light foxing to the fore edges, half title page, title page, and scattered light foxing to many pages, mainly limited to the margins. There are a couple of 'faint' drink ring marks to the front board. A few page corner tips have been turned, leaving neat creasing. Despite these faults, the book remains tight and otherwise clean. A good copy.
