Two volumes bound together under the title "Stories and Travels"-- "Evenings With the Old Story Tellers being a Choice Collection of Ancient Moral Tales, Etc." and "Life in Germany or A Visit to the Springs of Germany by 'An Old Man' in Search of Health." Cover extremities heavily rubbed, with slight loss to cloth at head/tail of spine. Cover cloth irregularly sunned, with much of the cloth in shades of beige, brown, and gold, with rectangular portion at rear and part of front cover still purple. Scarce. Stokes (1819-1903) was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics in the University of Cambridge from 1849 until his death. He made seminal contributions to studies of fluid mechanics and physical optics. He is known for Stokes' Theorem in vector calculus and also contributed to the theory of asymptotic expansions. In original green publisher's cloth with gilt spine lettering and decoration. Some pages uncut. Moderate-to-heavy rubbing to cover extremities at lower corners and head of spine only. Prior owner name and date neatly inked in center of front endpaper. Both front and rear endpapers bear moderate rectangular darkened area covering almost entire page, as though some paper item was previously laid-in (?) Tiny light spot stain to page fore edge block. Gilt title and spine; top edge gilt. Moderate rubbing to cover extremities. Library marks limited to spine lettering, bookplate at inside front cover, and pocket strip/plain label/offset shadows to rear endpapers. Clean and tight. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall

Massachusetts: Self-published, 2004 Spiral-bound 8 12/" x 11" booklet with clear actetate front cover and black vinyl back cover. Compilation of photocopied and typewritten materials pertaining to the history of the Hardwick, Massachusetts property known as Mandell Hill. The property known as Mandell Hill was first settled by Paul Mandell in 1749, and was passed on from father to son through four generations until it was sold at auction in 1878. Historical details continue through 1983. Presently a local land trust property. Includes copies of photographs, excerpts from a farm diary, deeds, newspaper announcements, etc. Color illustrated cover page lightly edgeworn and with two light diagonal creases to upper corner and tiny faint spot of soil. Light scuffing to clear acetate cover. Otherwise clean, intact, and unworn.

A description is given of the tutoring program as it applied to these children and some speculation is made as to why the program worked in some cases and did not in others." During the late nineteenth century, the author and her pastor husband ran a home boarding and day school for young ladies in Manhattan. The genealogical part of this book, pages 23-56, and including Scottish tables, consolidates a great deal of information which, in that period, was not provided elsewhere in any one book.Light rubbing to cover extremities; partial splitting to cloth at front spine edge. Damp exposure to tail of spine and lower adjoining edges of boards is not obvious at the exterior, but moderate dampstains appear at lower margins, spreading from spine, of most interior pages.
