Description:
Limited edition of 45 variously numbered copies, including 10 bound in quarter cloth, of which this is number 6. A precursor of the private press movement, the Daniel Press was established by C.H.O. Daniel (1836-1919) and operated by him at Oxford, where he eventually became Provost of Worcester College. Unlike many successors, the Daniel Press published first (& usually only) editions of works, i.e. current literature, mostly by persons associated with Oxford and/or known to Daniel. Among Daniel Press authors were various poets little-known or forgotten today, justly or otherwise. After an introduction discussing the Daniel Press, Franklin presents 10 poets, with brief biographical/critical introductions and comments, and texts of various poems, entire or in excerpts: Robert Bridges, Richard Watson Dixon, Mary Coleridge (great-niece of S.T.C.), Ethel Kate Wedgwood [sic], Alice Buckton, Margaret L. Woods, Herbert Warren, Laurence Binyon, F.W. Bourdillon, and Henry Patmore.
