Description:
[J. R Van Frank.] Scurry County.[Austin?]:General Land Office. [Circa 1882.] Map. Sheet size approx. 20.5 x 16.5 inches. Black ink on oil cloth. Very good.
OCLC shows an 1880 map of Scurry County (Hardin Simmons) and an 1880 version by Hans Helland (Univ. of Houston) and an 1889 version (Univ. of Houston). Delineator not identified, but definitely J. R. Van Frank as this is hand drawn and written so similarly as the above example of his work. One of the earliest maps of Scurry County. Plots are numbered. Large blocks of land allocated to the H. and C. R. R. Co. Other lands are specifying the Lavaca Navigation Co. and the H. and G. N.R. R. Co. Two identified bodies of water are the Colorado River and Ennis Creek. No date given, but town of Snyder was platted in 1884 and not shown. Van Frank probably delineated this map in 1882 when he also drew the Dawson County map listed above.
