Scott Fitzgerald's screenplay for "THREE COMRADES" by Erich Maria Remarque (author of "All Quiet on the Western Front"). 1978 1st edition, 1st printing; Southern Illinois University Press; Carbondale and Edwardsville, IL. The book comes with its original, unclipped dust jacket (with the original $10 price intact on the front flap). The book contains numerous black & white photographs. From the Preface: "The version of Three Comrades published here is not a screenplay in the sense that it is not a finished blueprint for the making of a motion picture. The motion picture was eventually filmed from the shooting script that evolved from the collaboration of Fitzgerald, and E.E. Paramore - with Joseph Mankiewicz' final revisions. It has been customary in the film industry to use the talents of novelists to assist in adaptations or even write original stories for film. This F .Scott Fitzgerald script is interesting for its historical value, as well as its insights into how one… Read More

Uncommon copy with its original dust jacket (though the front jacket flap is not present). The dust jacket comes with a clear protective sleeve (not shown). The novel follows the senior year of a college football player, on the field and off, including his course work, nightlife, and relationships. From the introductory page: "Like a full-back plunging for a goal, this honest and powerful novel forges ahead to its goal - a drastic response of the American college system. The barbarism of football, the tyranny of the coaches, the exams, the club snobbery, the cutting loose after games, the furtive sex adventures, the barrenness of culture in these supposed citadels of culture - all get rough but fair treatment. No college novel like it has yet been written. Based on the author's diaries, reconsidered in soberer after-college life, it combines the fervor of… Read More

Double column text. From the "Note" at the beginning of the book:"The readers of Les Miserables will be astonished to find what a flood of light is thrown upon that masterwork by this charming life-history of its great author. Its wonderful descriptions cease to be fictions and become actual life. Marius is but a free variation of Victor Hugo himself. Circumstances are considerably changed, yet the man and his formation are substantially the same. The fairy spot which saw the loves of Cosette and Marius, is the actual scene of the child courtship between the subject and the author of this biography."Condition:Tanning and soiling to the covers and spine; sharp corners; fraying at the top of the spine.
