Salem: W. & S. B. Ives, 1827. First Edition . Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. We assert the book as a first edition based on the appearance of the date 1827 and its apparent match with number 2243 in the Sabin which is available to us. Book measures 8 3/4" by 5 1/2", though Sabin says 22 1/2 cm. (1/2 cm difference). The book has 611 pages, two blank endsheets front and rear. First sheet is completely loose and that gutter is gapped though the hinge is holding. Last endsheet is also partially loose with gutter gapping, again hinge is holding. The text, while nicely legible throughout has about every flaw that could be specified. Previous owner's name first pastedown and title page. Two erased pencillings, minor, are evident first endsheet's corner and title page. The text's foredge has the odd spot or stain. Endsheets have a fair amount of foxing and edge scar.
