Fabricius taught anatomy in the famous medical school of Padua for nearly fifty years and in this classic medical book gave the first complete description of the valves in the veins. His work inspired his pupil William Harvey to study the functioning of the cardiovascular system. The book is printed in both original Latin and in translation.

Prospero Fagnini (1598 1678) was an eminent Italian canon law lawyer who served the Popes for 50 years. First published in 1661, his five volume "Ius canonicum seu commentaria absolutissium in quinque libris Decretalium." was noted for bringing clarity to the complex and often disputed Canon Laws.

Roebuck (Agent in London for the Assembly of Lower Canada), Bancroft and Jared Sparks, the historians; the letters and Falconer's comment thereon, deal with the practice of appointing colonial agents in London, as followed about 1844 by Canada, and previous to 1775 by the other English colonies in America. Part II is written by Falconer, an English county court judge and a strong liberal, who travelled in America, 1840-42, and was later (1850) member of the Canadian boundary commission.
