Spine slightly dulled, label browned, minor splits to joints at head of spine, minor chipping to foot of spine, covers slightly faded to edges, corners bumped. Internally bright and clean. Number one hundred and eight of one hundred and fifty-five copies, 'numbered and signed' according to the colophon, but I can see no evidence of it being signed (presumably as issued?). Printed on Zanders handmade paper by The Bremer Press in Munich, with five hand-coloured double-page landscapes by Annette von Eckardt. First Edition. Quarter Cloth and Boards. Good+. Full calf, semi-raised bands, four narrow and two wide, spine divided into five unequal panels, title in gilt between panels two, three and four, the remaining with small quadrilobe in the centre, surrounded by elaborate roundel with flower heads, panelled design to covers, double fillet inner panel with fleurons to corners, with wide outer 'doorway' roll as a frame, gilt roll to inner edge, a.e.g. shell pattern marbled endpapers. Covers rubbed, with small amounts of loss to leather and gilt, small hole to head to front joint. Internally a small stain to bottom corner to the first twenty or so pages. Interleaved throughout. The first item is the book by Cunningham, 'Narrative of Occurrences that took place during the Mutiny at the Nore', this is bound with a pamphlet to rear, 'Ceremonial of the Execution of R[ichar]d Parker, for Mutiny on Board His Majesty's Ships at the Nore, on Friday, June 30, 1797, with Parker's Last Letter to His Wife', published in 1840 (pages inlaid and remargined to match the larger size of the first work). Thirdly, a pamphlet 'Observations on the State of Discipline in the Navy, End of the Year 1797. In a Letter to a Friend' and finally a framed and glazed engraving of Richard Parker (no date but after 1824), with notes in ink about Parker's hanging. Book rubbed to extremities, with slight loss to surface leather, internally quite bright and clean. Designs include several embossed 'pierced lace' designs, through to later printed and chromolithographic cards. Included amongst many others is a remembrance card for Prince Albert (1861), a funeral ticket for the Duchess of Norfolk (1877) and an attractive folding card in its original black bordered envelope (1907). "The memorial card relied for much of its appeal on the austere extravagance of blind embossing. The process produced an uncoloured relief image of some delicacy ... exploited here for its portrayal of sepultural and monumental images.
