According to caption information, Earhart was the first woman guest that the British club ever hosted. These original press photo taken by photojournalist within tight timeframe for the benefit of particular editorial board and with the aim of usage by the press to illustrate an article often affected public opinion in the nation. A handsome photograph demonstrating some of the social boundaries that Earhart was crossing, as she made aviation history.

[Girls' Education] Original cross-stitch alphabet sampler from two 8-year old girls. 1814. In frame: 15.5 x 20.5". Alphabet cross-stitched in capital and lower case letters. Vowels, numbers 0-9, and floral designs in backstitch. Girls' names Verna L Haywood and Elizabeth Hope stitched below along with "at best 1814", "Age eight years," and "Give thanks to the Lord". This piece has interestingly been worked by both girls. The fabric upon which they stitched have been sewn together in a vertical line down the center. The stiches on either side are distinct; the capital letters on the right half, for instance, are generally stitched in a more straight line, while the letters on the left side have greater variation in height.Samplers were valuable parts of girls' education from the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries, as it demonstrated both their skill in needlepoint and their achievements in literacy. The 23 Photos are pasted onto 6 album pages, No covers . Album pages measures 10.5" x 12.5" and each photo measures between 2" x 3" to 3.5" x 4.5". Le Mans was the first Grand Prix in 1906, and the second and third were in 1907 and 1908 the Grand Prix took place on public roads between Dieppe, Eu and Londinières. The famous race that introduced the 130 HP model Fiat made especially for Grand Prix racing, driven and by Felice Nazzaro who won the 1907 Grand Prix . Nazzaro in fact won all three major events of 1907 including the Targa Florio and the Kaiserpreis. The photographs document the drivers with goggles preparing for the race, the circuit near the city of Dieppe in the French countryside,the race cars at the pit stops. Photos measure between 4.75" x 6.5" and 3.75" x 4.75". 22 pages, unbound. A majority of the photos were taken on both the Big Island of Hawaii and on Oahu including many shots in Honolulu. There is no date given, but estimated to be the early 1890s. There are some photos of the ship the family took to get there called "Sierra" in the beginning. Sarton first came out as a lesbian in this book and that was a scandal at the time. But now the book is an illustration of lesbian and female empowerment. The book has edgewear, good hinges, sound text block, some foxing to outer edges of text block, clean pages. The mylar protected dustjacket is not priceclipped, but with rubbing, multiple old price stickers, foxing and wear, still very little paper loss. From the collection of a History professor who became friends with Sarton when they first met at Depauw University in the mid 1950s. Very good in a Good dustjacket.

Spain-A 10 pesetas revenue stamp imprint in a license granted to a 21 year old female teacher for primary school education on vellum with ornate border, coat of arms Castilla y Leon, by order of His Majesty The King and the "Governing Queen of the Kingdom." Madrid 1891. This license was granted during the unstable period between the First and Second Republic, when the Monarchy ruled with a tenuous grasp and educational reform remained in constant flux between the agendas of liberals and conservatives. Secondary and higher education received the most true reform, however, all would later fall into the iron grasp of General Primo de Rivera and his military government in 1923. For nearly a century leading up to the time this license was issued, Spain had struggled to fulfill a promise to its people to provide education. Like most nations during the 19th century, it found the fulfillment in that promise to lie in employment of female teachers.
