London: G. Virtue, 1830. xvi, 368pp, plates. Later full calf, raised bands, spine in six panels, title label to second panel, remaining panels with volute corner pieces in blind, volutes in gilt to bands, covers with thick and thin fillet border surrounding a foliate frame in blind, all edges marbled, marbled endpapers. Modern reback, rubbed to extremities. Internally some off setting from engravings, otherwise quite bright and clean. Complete with thirty-six coloured engravings by Robert Cruikshank. This copy has the woodcuts on pages 40 and 42, which Tooley designates as the first issue, Abbey suggests no priority. One of the more uncommon of Egan's books. Tooley 197; Abbey Life 285. Rebound in full morocco by Zaehnsdorf, raised bands, spine in six panels, title in gilt to second panel, remaining panels filled with small flower heads, roundels and pointille, covers with an inner double fillet panel with elaborate corner pieces, an outer double fillet panel and an elaborate rolled frame of flowery stems and pointille, gilt roll to edges, gilt to inner edges, t.e.g. and marbled endpapers. Outer joints rubbed with some minor splitting, but holding, rubbed to extremities. Internally text is browned throughout, a few instances of small tears and chips to edges. Plates are tissue-guarded, these with off-setting, plates generally clean, though smaller than the text leaves. Lacking the preface leaves (pages 3-4), 'list of plates' leaf bound in at rear. Later (mid - late18th century?) morocco, slightly raised double bands, spine in six panels, title in gilt to second panel, publisher to third, remaining panels with central floral spray surrounded by a lozenge made up of small tools with acorn corner pieces, covers with thick fillet bordering a flower head and leafy stem roll frame, gilt roll to edges and inner edges, a.e.g., with spot pattern marbled endpapers. Spine slightly faded, small hole to head of spine, rubbed with some slight cracking to leather towards fore-edges. Lightly browned internally, occasional light spotting, but generally clean, previous owners' book plate to front pastedown. Red ruled throughout. Signature Ii misbound but complete. Rebound using original boards, smooth spine, divided into six panels by gilt rolls, author and title to second panel. Spine slightly faded, some wear to board edges. Internally some light browning and occasional light foxing, usual light off-setting from plates, but generally fairly clean. Silva with portrait frontispiece, forty plates (one folding) and one folding table, Terra (published a year later in York) has a plate and a folding table, and includes the uncommon prospectus for the printing of this edition of Silva.
