With 24 black and white plates. ¶ The standard reasoned catalogue of the work of Cornelis Engebrechtsz (1475-1527), who lived in Leiden and established a large and productive workshop there that trained many important painters. He primarily painted biblical scenes hat were distinctive through their use of warm colours and layered glazes. This work contains ample bibliographical references, learned notes, indexes and a "life of Engebrechtsz" after Van Mander (1604). -(Edges partly slightly foxed).

Contemporary half calf, spine richly gilt decorated (joints partly slightly worn and slightly rubbed; corners slightly bumped). ¶ Last and best of an indispensable and valuable work of reference.--(As usual with Engelmann's publication, scattered browning and foxing throughout the volume).

Original publisher's cloth (sides with some slight dampstain, discoloured and slightly dust soiled). ¶ Espanet studied homeopathy with Chargé, Rapou, Pétroz and Tessier. Was physician at the agricultural colony founded by the Trappists at Staouéli (Algeria), but for health reasons he returned to France (Montélimar). During the period 1851 and 1881 he published extensively on homeopathy. His "Pratique de l'Homoeopathie (1847) was many times re-published until at least 1950. The 5th edition of 1911 as quoted by Rozet A230 apparently don't exist.

With 47 plates on 38 engraved copper plates, of which 8 with partial contemporary hand colouring. The plates are re-engraved after the plates de Wandelaer made for the Albinus edition of Eustachius (1744). ¶ Very rare, being a reissue of the remainder of the original plates and text sheets of 1798 with only a new title page and preface by Suringar. 'A romantic history attaches to this fine collection of plates, drawn by Eustachius himself and completed in 1552. They remained unprinted and forgotten in the Vatican Library until discovered in the early 18th century, and were then presented by Pope Clement XI to his physician Giovanni Maria Lancisi. The latter published them in 1714 together with his own notes. These copperplates are more accurate than the work of Vesalius.
