This was written in 1965 by local school teacher Elmer Bernard Sword, B.G.E. for the town's Sesquicentennial Celebration. There were 2 versions of this book printed: a hard back and this version which is a series of 6 small paperbacks. Both versions are scarce---I've found none for sale (at this time), and there are only 27 copies owned by various libraries. All six booklets are in terrific shape: clean and the staples are tightly secure. The back covers have a table of contents for each booklet (or part). The first booklet has notes on the back inside cover; there is no writing or soiling in any of the other books. This is a short biography of a ledgendary southern sheriff, James Edwin McTeer. At one time the youngest sheriff in the United States, McTeer took care of Beaufort for 37 years. He was thought to be a hoodoo, root, conjure man throughout the community and his help in spiritual matters was held in high regard. People traveled from surrounding counties to seek his advice. After he retired, he became an author; this is one of the four book written by him. In 1981 shortly after his death, a bridge linking the islands to the mainland was named for him. After the conclusion of the Civil War, there was a demand for improved farming methods throughout the southern region. Most of the Agricultural information previously used in the South was based on European research, most of which were not adaptable to the southern soil and climate. The University of Georgia established a small experimental reseach farm in1873, run by a Professor of Chemistry at the University, E. M. Pendleton. Two years later Professor Pendleton published this book, written for the Agricultural students at the Unversity of Georgia, one of the very first such textbook published in the United States. The fourth period telling the story of the next twenty-five years of the 1961 ;by William E. East, Editor of the Twin City Sentinel and an elder in the church. Book is clean and unmarked. Regardless of the title this book contains full page black and white photographs of architecture found in and around Augusta in 1894. There's quite a bit of local history and descriptions of public buildings and landmarks. Quite a large heavy book, in excellent condition: white clean pages with no foxing or markings. Jacket is clean and covered with mylar, but has a small rubbed place on cover, which is not noticible. A handsome copy.

This is an outstanding copy of this book: solid as a rock, tight binding, very light shelf wear at heel of spine, sharp cornered. The pages are clean, white and bright. But the dust jacket is the star. It's true that it's price clipped, and the spine is maybe one shade darker than the rest of the cover--but that's it. Not bad for a 1926 edition. 289 pages, 176 poems from one of America's premeir poets---and not a mark on any pages. Beautiful wood block scenes on the front cover showing an early 20th century factory in all it's glory (maybe Chicago) and a prairie scene. Picture taken before I added the mylar sleeve. Cedar Creek Cemetery is thought to have quite a few unmarked graves of Johnson and Harvey families. The book is divided in 2 with a section for each cemetery. Each section has a map. Book is very clean with all of the spiral backing securely in place. Pages are all present and unmarked. Front lower corner has a wrinkle Previous owners name at bottom of front cover and dated.
