Milano: F. Lucca [PN 7705], 1850. Oblong folio. Sewn. Early blue paper wrappers. 17, [1] (blank) pp. Engraved. From the collection of Italian conductor, vocal coach, and close associate of Puccini and Mascagni, Luigi Ricci (1893-1981). Wrappers somewhat worn and soiled. Small blue hand stamp to title. Scattered light soiling throughout; occassional ink stains not affecting music. First Edition. Dalla Baratta (or Della Baratta) was a rather obscure Italian composer. His opera Ludro premiered at the Teatro Comunale in Fiume (now Rijeka, Croatia) on May 1, 1850. It was performed in Venice later that year, and then in Milan in 1852. The present excerpt is of Ludro's aria "Patroni riveriti" followed by a scene and duet "So sta da sior" with Ludretto. Ricci was an important figure in the transmission of 19th century traditions passed on to him by noted baritone Antonio Cotogni (1831-1918), whom he accompanied from the age of 12. He was active as a vocal coach at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa…
