Description:
The first print in a cream cloth binding and red endpapers of the author's acclaimed master work. Made into a memorable romantic war film that by turns is charged with emotion and the wages of war. Signed by the author on the title page. No other inscriptions or mark. A little toning of the book block (mainly on the top edge) and a little knock to the tips of the bottom corner of the binding. The jacket is virtually without fault, just a small crease at the head of the spine. Not price clipped and the colour is vibrant. A book that is both rare and desirable. A modern classic.

Description:
The Latin American Trilogy by Louis de Bernieres, three first edition novels, being his first to third novels, all British editions and signed on the title pages at the Hay Festival. This magical realist trilogy is one of the best, in parts hilarious, horrifying, fascinating, life affirming. Heavily influenced by Marquez, each book deals with a different issue affecting South America: 1st book details the destructive power of the army; 2nd the cocaine cartels; 3rd the Catholic church. Each book is a dense, pacey sequence of outrageous incidents, punctuated by descriptions so delicious that they implore you to childishly agree to pretend are really plausible. Many of these incidents or stories will irritate you into stopping to considering the larger themes they evoke, from political theory, religious tradition, the justification of terrorism, class-divide and time and time again, love. The first and second books are fine for both the book and jacket. No marks or inscriptions. The third volume is VG…

Description:
This is a copy of the pre-publication typescript of the Colin Dexter mystery, The Way Through the Woods. It comprises loose pages in a green card cover to front and back. See photos. The pages have not been read or handled and are Very Good. The only fault being a corner on the top right front of the green cover has a crease.
An autographed and signed letter from Colin Dexter is offered with the item. The letter is on cream paper and explains why he is unable to attend to an introduction to a book by Val McDermid. The words are quite jolly ... "I've been swamped these last few months with reading typescripts, & still have four (yes!) not even begun. I'm foolish to agree to such things - but I've ever been a fool". The letter comprises three pages of text. At the end he signs off "As ever, Colin".
