ADDITIONALLY INSCRIBED TO FRONT FREE ENDPAPER BY SEVEN SNOOKER LEGENDS. The signatories are Sydney Lee, Rex Williams, John Pulman, Jackie Rea, Kingsley Kennerley, Alec Brown and Joe's brother Fred. An extraordinary collection of signatures, comprising almost the entire snooker pantheon of the 1950s.

Text a little age-toned, but a very good copy in a darkened dustwrapper, with two closed tears and some loss to rear panel, small chip to lower edge at front corner. Frontispiece portrait of the author by Iacovleff. First edition. One of 100 copies, this copy unnumbered. The only book by Isabel Maria Teresa Micaela Rafaela Gabriela Nadejda de Bragança, a descendant of the Portuguese royal family, who killed herself via a London hotel window in 1946 -- an entirely understandable reaction to having written these execrable poems. Of no literary value, the book is one of the scarcer titles issued by the Obelisk Press, the English-language Paris-based imprint responsible for publishing the early work of Henry Miller, Lawrence Durrell and Anaïs Nin, among many others. Chicago: The Reilly & Britton Co., 1918. 8vo, pp. 312. Original dark blue boards, lettered in gilt on front panel and spine. Two small stamped names to front pastedown and ffep. ('Watab Pulp & Paper Co, Sartell, Minn.'). Small handwritten index number to ffep, the number repeated on a small labe affixed to spine. Folding map tipped in at pp. 160-61, with a resulting slight cracking to the signature. A bright, well-preserved copy in a spectacular dustwrapper with a little very slight edgewear but no tears or chips, and the colours beautifully bright. Illustrated with black and white photos and maps. First edition. 'Gunner Depew tells an amazing story of what he did -- what he saw -- what he endured -- in two years packed with fighting on land and sea.' A near fine copy in a spectacular (and possibly supplied) dustwrapper. Not a particularly rare book, except in this condition.

Dust jacket illustration by Roy Knipe. First edition of this novelisation tie-in from the Tom Baker era. Terrance Dicks here adapts a story written by Terry Nation for the thirteenth series of the TV series; Dicks spent five years as the show's script editor. Scarce, and getting scarcer.

First edition, first issue of the author's first novel, without the green border to title page, and with the earlier price ('Francs: 1.500') to rear panel. The Ginger Man had been rejected by upwards of thirty publishers on the grounds of obscenity before finding a home in Paris with Maurice Girodias' Olympia Press, for whom its obscenity was its chief appeal. Donleavy was delighted to have found a publisher, and delighted to have found one who had recently published work by Beckett, Bataille and Genet. He was less delighted when The Ginger Man appeared in 1955, on a list including books called White Thighs, The Whip Angels, and The Sexual Life Of Robinson Crusoe -- all of which were advertised in the back of his book. A fine copy preserved in a modern binding. 16 b&w heliogravures by Charles 'Herric' Hérouard placed throughout the text. Second edition. French text. No. 1316 of 2225 copies. Lesbian spanking novel from the stable of Jean Fort, the clandestine publisher of mostly sado-masochistic erotica. Fort was active in Paris throughout the period between the two World Wars; this work dates from the very end of his known publishing career. Whether he survived into the 1940s is uncertain, but no book bearing any of his known imprints appeared after 1939. As the title page shows, Fort distributed books bearing the Aux Galants Passe-Temps imprint from 79, Rue De Vaugirard -- the same address from which his better known Collection Des Orties Blanches had been issued a few years before. 'This novel follows the life of a junkie and is told in his own words as he bares his soul to the reader. It is based on true facts.' (As opposed to the untrue kind). Novel by the former Warden of San Quentin prison and his partner, heavy on italics, exclamation marks and hysteria, and very light on style. Authors' own copy, which they seem to have given away. (Can't say I blame them...). Scarce.
