West Tisbury, Martha's Vineyard, MA, [1900]. General wear. Crease folds. Single fold pamphlet advertising a newly built sanitarium called Glencroe, in the small town of West Tisbury located on Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts. The proprietor, Dr. D. A. Cleaveland, of the sanitarium starts by praising the weather, which apparently in winter is only "five degrees colder than Old Point Comfort, VA", and then continues on to state the numerous diseases which are not a problem for the islands residents. "Diphtheria is unknown in this part of the island. Malignant Scarlatina, typhoid fever, cholera infantum, or any inflammatory intestinal disease, together with phthisis, are rarely met with..." Farmington, NH, 1856 - 1864. A copy book used to by Jonathan D. Roberts to keep an accounting of his guardianship of Timothy Stevens from 1856 - 1864. On the first page is a note that states Roberts was appointed Stevens guardian on February 5, 1856 and that this fact was advertised in the Dover Gazette on the first Tuesday in February. Next is an inventory of the Estate of Timonth Stevens valued at $1,011.37. What follows is a list of expenses incurred by Roberts, such as the cost of board, travel to the probate court, the cost of his services and a list of different bills paid out. The front cover has an engraving of a monument that states "To Washington". The back cover has a multiplication table on it as well as the note "Always for sale, a general assortment of Blank, School, and Miscellaneous Books..." There is no mention of a publisher. The illustration on the left is a crossroad for young teens - one leads to school and the other the factory. A billboard in the image reads "Help Wanted Children 14 to 16 years old Education Unnecessary Apply at Factory. The illustration is captioned SCHOOL OR WORK? Thousands of children leave school for work before they finished elementary school. The next image depicts two vignettes - the top a high school educated young man seated comfortably at a desk looking at want ads paying $80 a month start. The bottom half is the uneducated young man facing a HELP WANTED sign - Boy - Strong to handle boxes $8 per week. New York: R.H. Russell, 1899. unpaginated, brown cloth gilt title, black and white sketches throughout mixed with minimal text, enclosed in matching cloth gilt box. This truly unique book describes Mr. Pipp's travels with "Mrs. Pipp and the girls" through London, Paris, America, the Riviera, Italy, Monte Carlo and the adventures and people they encounter both on he trip and once returning home to England. Reverse of title page explains first eight scenes of Mr. Pipp's career originally published in "Sketches and Cartoons". This volume is the fourth in the regular series, the first three include "Drawings by C.D. Gibson" "Pictures of People" and "Sketches and Cartoons." 17 3/4" x 11 3/4" title page signed, some staining and foxing, matching box worn but intact.

A partial set of stereoscopic charts used "for cultivating Binocular Vision and for Treatment of Heterophoria", compiled by Dr. David W. Wells for the American Optical Company. The set includes nine (9) "series" of charts for different uses by a trained refractionist with a DeZeng Phorometer Stereoscope. The cards were a selection by Javal, Dahlfeld, Kroll, Hale and Wells; the author's names appear on each chart. This set includes thirty-six (36) black and white cards and eighteen (18) color cards, lacking a total of seventeen (17) cards. Each measures 3" by 7"; versos blank. Printed instructions bifolium measures 6" by 3". Housed in original box with printed label measuring 3.25" by 7.25" by 1". The cards were used for the stereoscopic treatment of heterophoria. The first part of the book has two chapters; definitions and first principles and application and constructions. The second part, Linear Perspective, has two untitled chapters. The plates are 8 1/2 x 11 prints. 10" x 6" foxing throughout, book is solid with fold out plates intact.

New York, 6-May-84. Minor creases otherwise in great condition.. A poster advertising the "March for Soviet Jewry" that took place in New York on May 6, 1984, otherwise known as Solidarity Sunday. The purpose of the political march was for the people of New York, including the Jewish people of New York to show their support for the Jews in the Soviet Union who were facing a variety of human rights abuses at the time. The poster was designed by Paul Davis and shows an image of an older Jewish woman wearing a red head scarf. Above the portrait is the quote, "Take my picture. Show my face. Tell everyone I am still here." This march inspired the "Freedom Sunday for Soviet Jews", which occurred in 1987, in Washington, DC. Measures 22 1/2" x 15

United Kingdom, 1940. Partial separation on end papers back cover. Minimal detraction.. The story of princess Pippette who lived with her parents the King and Queen and the Royal Nurse in a castle. In essence - she had a bad day was playing with her best crown, knocked the jewels out and was spanked by the Royal Nurse. She ran away from the castle, being out for the first time in her life, explored the world was given a balloon by the balloon man. She happened upon the "Pinnikins" fairies in a fairy land with toadstool tables and custard in acorn cups, where she witnesses adventures and misadventures. When the "clock struck" she realized she was hungry and went back to the castle, was welcomed with open arms and not punished as all were pleased at her safe return. London: Hutchinson, 1946. Good. 44 numbered pages with black and white line drawings, and five full page color illustrations. The book tells the story of two 'naughty' elves Peeky and Boo, and the trouble they get into. The cover is a dark blue cloth, that shows some edge wear, particularly at the binding. The are two small stains on the back cover. Binding is loose but intact. Measures 9 1/2 x 7 1/4.

New York: Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc, 1941. unpaginated. Printed cloth cover, first edition, black and white and color illustrations. The story of Elin and her family, originally from Sweden, and their settling into a new home in America. The new land does not feel like home to Elin until she begins to learn about the country. Appears to be set in colonial time period, Elin encounters Native Indians. 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" slight staining on cover, no dust jacket, inscribed.

Chicago, IL: Thomspon & Thomas, 1872. A 'profusely illustrated' version bound in publisher's gilt stamped and pictorial blue cloth boards. The novel also has an autobiographical memoir of the author, and a life of Alexander Selkirk, to whose residence on the island Juan Fernandez inspired the novel. There are over 40 wonderfully rich and detailed full and half sheet black and white illustrations are found throughout the 528 page novel. Measures 10" x 7" Edge wear to the covers as well as minor stains. The front cover is partially detached. The cloth binding is slightly worn and there is a very minor tear on the backstrip. Binding is loose, but intact. The interior pages are toned due to age. There is a previous owner's inscription on the front inside cover.

The book tells the story of adventures of the Patsy Twins and their dog Pan. Along with the story each page features a beautiful illustration by Dorothy Bock, and a verse. Edge wear on covers. Missing surface litho corner tip back cover. Measures 13" x 10

New York: Anson D.F. Randolph, 1860. 16 pp. Printed soft cover, full text, originally printed in The Mother's Journal. The religious story of sweet little three year old Antoinette who befriends Loose Ben, the sixteen year old slouching, dirty fire-maker at the Nelson Hotel. Antoinette asks Ben if she loves and prays to God. He responds yes but later confesses that he lied and until that morning did not. Ben has a change of heart. Little Antoinette is then spoken of as in her coffin and covered in roses when Ben finds her again. 4 1/4" x 2 3/4" slight wear, foxing.

New York, NY: The Outlook Company, 1910. Age toning. A few minor tears along one or two interior pages' edges. Inscribed.. Fryeburg-on-th-Saco was a summer resort open from July 1st to October 1st in Fryeburg, ME. While technically it was a summer resort, it was a particular resort that is hard to accurately define. This is something the place recognizes itself, and indeed starts of the brochure with: "A Camp? Perhaps that term describes it as well as any one term can. The fact is that its uniqueness prevents the accurate use of a name which could be applied elsewhere. An assembly, a settlement, a summer school, a family of families -each of these names and a dozen others succeeds in standing for only one side of the life which is pleasantly associated in the minds of many with the banks of the Saco and the shady trees of old Fryeburg." Note the cartoonish cowboy and horse figurines dotting the straw display in the glass case, and the lamp made from a cowboy boot. Photographed by commercial photographer Dick Whittington (1896-1985), known best for his documenting the history of Los Angeles through his photos. Measures 10" by 8.25", corners rounded.
