Very scarce, important, First American Edition, Limited Edition number 144 of 300 signed by both Roald Dahl and illustrator Quentin Blake. Sky blue boards without flaws. Red foil title stamping on spine, red foil mouse on cover. The spine on the top edge is barely cocked (see photo). Sunshine yellow original slipcase with 1" slight soiling (black scuff). Foot of slipcase has a tiny wear spot. Otherwise fine. Black and white illustrations throughout. Octavo. No dustjacket as issued. Winner of the Whitbread Book Award (1983). One of the most frequently challenged books on the ALA banned books list. In poor condition but appears to be complete. Tape repair to spine and some pages. No date found. A parody of a play with beautiful illustrations. Many pages of advertisements many related to railroad equipment.

Blue covers with attractive gold lettering on fron and spine. DJ has some wear and small chips at top and bottom of spine and corners. Stamped on FFE "Metro-Goldwyn Mayer Library Culver City - Calif."

Wraps worn and stained but all present. Interior Clean.

This is copy number 137 of an edition of 200 copies published in December 1946 by the Rare Book Division of the Library of Congress. The book has white covers and is wrapped in blue covers with red label with gold lettering and the entire fits into a slipcase. The slipcase shows slight shelf wear. This a reprint of a book published in 1488 with an introduction by Elizabeth Morgan of the National Gallery of Art. Charming original illustrations. A real gem.
