Description:
Broadside, 21 x 11 inches, printed in four columns, with two cartoon illustrations. Horizontal folding creases, archival tape repair to one long tear on the back, all else very good. If you'd like a peek into the intricacies of North Dakota Republican Party politics leading up to the 1908 election, look no further. This Pro-McKenzie broadside reports on the recent activities of both factions and provides a table showing the affiliation (Stalwart, Insurgent, or Undecided) of delegates elected to attend the upcoming State Republican Convention by county. Despite the seeming domination of Stalwarts, McKenzie was forced to retire later in 1908, and… Read More

Description:
Portland, Oregon: Davidson Photo, 1883. Very good. 5.5" x 8" albumen photograph on a 9.25" x 12" mount. Titled "Cabinet Gorge, Clark's River, looking down stream," with further caption for the series: "Scenery Along the Line of the Northern Pacific Railroad Company, Clarke's Fork Division." Credited "Davidson, Photo. Portland, Oregon." Very good condition, with small chips at corners of mount, contrast a bit light. This series of views was apparently taken to celebrate and promote the completion of the Northern Pacific Railroad. Construction had begun in Minnesota in 1870, and the final section was completed on September 8, 1883. An article published in the Helena [Montana] Semi-Weekly Herald on July 19, 1883, reports that "Mr. Ed Stone, General Agent of the Land Department of the Northern Pacific Railroad, is the possessor of a large album of views entitled "Oregon and the Pacific Northwest." Glimpses of pretty sports along the valley of the Columbia River from northern Montana to the Pacific… Read More

Description:
1862. Softcover. Very good. Sewn pamphlet, 24 pp, printed in double columns. Minor insect damage, still a very good copy. A speech in opposition to the Second Confiscation Act, which called for court proceedings for seizure of land and property from disloyal citizens (ie, supporters of the Confederacy) in the South as well as the emancipation of their slaves that came under Union control. Davis was a vehement opponent of confiscation and made repeated and lengthy speeches in the Senate in an attempt to derail the legislation. It passed in July 1862, providing the legal basis for the Emancipation Proclamation.
