Hardcover. 153 pp.; 4to; originally bound in printed wrappers, this copy rebound without original cover in half red morocco over marbled boards, spine lettered in gilt; bright red, decorated endpapers. Ownership circular blindstamp on new front endpaper of Lars Vistnes, who was a noted plastic surgeon at Stanford and founding director of Interplast. He also found time to take up bookbinding, this being one of his efforts. One can see the craft was a natural fit given his professional training and talents, however the leather is faded on the spine and at top front, yet a nice preservation of an important work by George Davidson, scientist and major member of the U. S. Coast Survey, heading the survey of the California coast (1850-57), resulting in the publication that was eventually known as the Coast Pilot. (Cowan II, p. 156) .
