Moser's Alice joins the ranks of the earlier spectacular Alices: Tenniel, Rackham, Dali: not only do the 75 images dance and sprawl across the pages, but they reflect new visions of the text. These images range from marginalia to images merged into the text, to full page and on to two page spreads. The text is printed in black, with highlighted words in red or blue. Moser's signature is in purple, as is the limitation number, 157 of 350. The book is half bound in purple morocco with boards covered in a coordinating hand marbled paper, from the workshop of Gray Parrot. The type was cast and composed by Michael and Winifred Bixler. Further hand composition was done by Arthur Larson. Text and blocks were printed by Harold McGrath on Puligeum, a paper specially made for Pennyroyal by the Strathmore Paper Company. Stratford-upon-Avon: Shakespeare Head Press, 1928. A handsome set of the one of the Shakespeare Head Press's many fine collected editions of famous works of English literature, in this case Sir Thomas North's translation of Plutarch's Lives. Presented in eight volumes, quarter bound in black cloth with leather spine labels and paper covered boards. Number 334 of 500 copies produced for Houghton Mifflin for distribution in the United States. Each life is adorned with a headpiece portrait of the subject by Thomas Lowinsky. Octavo. A near fine set, with crisp spines and sound boards, with some unobtrusive rubbing on the edges and corners. As often the case, some initial and final pages of the volumes have some light foxing. Photographs and many maps, most fold-out. Carefully edited with more than 250 pages of comments by the editor and many footnotes. 2 volumes in dust jackets.

Fabric covered boards with a tan background and blue design elegantly done with a bird and her nest in a flowering tree, marbled end papers, unpaginated. One of an edition limited to 90 copies signed by Nicholas and Mary Parry, using colored Lino prints to illustrate this book. The poet loved exactitude, which is demonstrated in his beautifully rhythmical poetry. Fine condition.

A collection consisting of four novels and reminiscences about Powell's career and his writing. Powell was a renowned expert in bibliographical matters and in addition to his writing held important posts at academic libraries. He possessed the rare gift of writing about books and personalities with a great deal of feeling and affection. Whole generations of book collectors, librarians, and book sellers came to admire his work and owe their inspiration to him.

Designed by Ward Ritchie for the Capra Press. One hundred copies were quarter bound in leather with patterned paper covered boards enclosed in a cloth covered slip case. 436 pages. 9 1/4 x 6 1/4 inches. The book is signed by Powell. Number 9 of 100 copies. Fine.

Out of an edition of 350 copies, this is one of 25 bound in boards, paper spine label. Initial "I" of the text is hand-illuminated with gold leaf. A lovely production.

Claremont, CA: Scripps College Press, 2005. Fine, signed by Kitty Maryatt and her students, number 26 of 99 copies printed. Elaborately folded construction with letters scattered over the paper enclosing eight smaller constructons in a variety of papers of various types and colors, enclosed in a slipcase with sides printed with an abstract design and top and bottom edges made of the same paper as the enclosing construction. The paper for the enclosure was made by Cave Paper of Portland incorporating the letters printed by Gerald Lange. Fall 2005 publication in Sixty over Thirty.

Claremont, CA: Scripps College Press, 2005. As new, enclosed in protective clear plastic bag, signed by Kitty Maryat's students. Beautiful fan-fold book bound in boards covered in a simple black abstract design with tones of silver, small stars glued on or cut out from the front and rear pastedowns, colorful ribbon tie attached. Inner pages are a wonderful mix of cutouts, popups, paste-ins of various materials all assembled in a delightfully madcap way. One of the most clever of the creations of Maryat's students. Spring 2005 publication in Sixty over Thirty.

London: The Poetry Bookshop, 1923, 8 3/4 x 5 3/4 inches, plain brown paper wrappers embossed and decorated elegantly in black, custom clamshell slipcase is half natural linen with marbled paper covered boards and black leather spine label stamped in gold, 24 pages. Illustrated with woodcuts by Eric Gill--the wood engraving Autumn Midnight is the frontispiece, a leaf ornament on the front cover, four small decorations, and 17 decorated initials. Printed at S. Dominic's Press, Ditchling. Very good plus condition, front and back cover pages are wrinkled, slight cracking to paper spine, slight aging to lower edges of some pages, slipcase in fine condition. Overall, an attractive copy. Evan Gill number 273, like the second copy described by Gill, but SIXPENCE is spelled correctly.

Illustrations have been printed from six boxwood engravings and one cherry woodcut on Amalfi Italian hand-made paper and on Japanese hand-made Moriki and mending tissue. Hand sewn in wrappers of green paper and enclosed in an envelope-style portfolio covered in the same paper. Label printed on the front cover. Part of a series of limited editions by the Museum of Modern Art. A lovely production.
