Cacho (1898-1994) was a prolific Puerto Rican poet whose first book appeared in 1925.

This American artist's unorthodox WPA tempera murals ("The Fleet's In!" hints at homosexuality) in a style that came to be known as "magic realism" catapulted him to fame and controversy; male nudes were a favorite subject. Large, bold signature in blue ballpoint, heavy stock 5" X 3" card, n.p., 1976 June 1. Fine. With original envelope. A handsome example in Cadmus's superb script.

And below this is a nifty nonauthorial gift inscription by Newell B. Mack, an MIT researcher whose "somewhat far-out institutional solution" to an environmental issue is discussed in this book on pages 221-23. Mack presents this volume to his mother: "For Mom / Whose interest in the / past contributed to some / comments on the future (pp. 221 ff). / Newell / Dec. 25, 1978." Unusual copy.

Paired with composer James Van Heusen, this prolific lyricist counts "Call Me Irresponsible," "Three Coins in a Fountain," "All the Way" and "High Hopes" among his work -- all four of which won Oscars.
