Poems.Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper to the noted American bibliophile Frederick Adams whose Rockwell Kent bookplate is on the front pastedown: "To Fred Adams with all good wishes - this souvenir of a Curator's 'past' - Herb Cahoon 3 May 1954". Cahoon was curator at the Pierpoint Morgan Library, while Adams was its director. He was also co-bibliographer of James Joyce. Laid in are a Christmas card to Adams with a photograph of the author in a top hat, and a folded poem card.Fine.

Eighteen of the plates show views in which the canal features, often with locks or bridges. Hassell was taking advantage of both the widespread enthusiasm for this new means of transport and the beauty of the landscape surrounding this canal.Fine.
