This work offers a list of changes that the author has identified. Subtitle: 'containing the way the book is claimed to have been translated, the amendments which have been made in the book, what an inspired translation should have been, and the reasons given by the church for making the many grammatical changes.' Showing that the claims are inconsistent and untrue.' Lamoni Call(1865-1933) resided in Bountiful and Salt Lake City, Utah, and was a outspoken critic of the Mormon faith. In the late 1850s, United States president James Buchanan sent 2,000 troops to the desert territory to subdue the reportedly rebellious Mormons. Angry Utahns responded by waging guerrilla warfare and adopting a scorched-earth policy. After the military campaign, Mormon settlers continued to assert their independence in other ways—by refusing to associate with Gentile outsiders, by fixing wholesale and retail prices, and by capitalizing on the homogenous, regimented structure of their community to import half a million immigrants to the new Zion.

Nice image showing a group of people and horses around a barn with limber stacked in the background. Arthur Canning (1864-1952) worked as a photographer in Helena (1888-1892) before relocating to western Canada where he worked as a photographer for another two decades.

Clearfield, UT: Gnolaum Books, 2004. First Edition. 504pp. Octavo [23.5 cm] Black cloth with the title gilt on the front board and backstrip. Near fine/Near fine. Abraham Hoagland Cannon (1859-1896) lived his life in the shadow of his father, the prominent politician businessman, and LDS Church First Presidency member George Q. Cannon (1827-1901). Abraham died fairly young and spent his entire Apostolic tenure as the junior member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. For these and other reasons he is almost unknown in the LDS Church today. Perhaps the single most important thing he did in his life - after his Apostolic ministry - was to keep a marvelously complete and detailed journal. It is this journal that brings him out of historical obscurity and grants us the precious record of an Apostle who witnessed Church history in the making.

[Salt Lake City], 1916. Real photo postcard [9 cm x 14 cm] Divided Noko back. Manuscript noted on the back dated July 12, 1916. Image of Emigration Canyon's Pinecrest Inn that was built as a destination by the Emigration Canyon Railroad. The Emigration Canyon Railroad was incorporated in 1907. Within a year the 14-mile line was in operation. Its city terminus and yards were located near the western end of the present University of Utah stadium parking lot. Its route passed by Mount Olivet Cemetery, Sunnyside Avenue, the Wagner Brewery near the mouth of the canyon, and up what is now Highway U-65 to the Killyon's Canyon turnoff, with a spur to the quarries. The ECCR operated until 1907.

Near fine/Near fine. Decorative header art by William F. Rauschnabel. This work was printed in a limitation of 650 unnumbered copies. John Henry Nash (1871-1947) was a renowned fine printer who spent the majority of his career in the San Francisco area, founding the Twentieth Century Press with Bruce Brough, which was renamed Tomoye Press when Paul Elder was made a partner. Later Nash founded his own eponymous printing venture, this is where he cemented legacy as one of the great American printers. Later in his life he would teach printing and typography at the University of Oregon.

Carter and his wife Sarah reached Salt Lake City in 1864 where he continued the photographic practice he began in England. Carter initially worked for C.R. Savage before starting his own studio in 1867. Over the years Carter partnered with a number of photographers including J.B. Silvis and C.W. Symons.

Inscribed by the author to David Bigler on the half-title: "David, I hope you enjoy the trip down this trail leading to Provo's origins. D. Robert Carter." Illustrated with black and white views throughout. "This meticulously researched history, written with a storyteller's flare, chronicles the settlement's first troubled year as the newcomers played host to traveling bands of Utes, U.S. government surveyors, forty-niners on their way to the gold fields in California, and visiting church officials from Salt Lake City. While entertaining these visitors, the homebuilders found time to exploit the area's natural resources, wrest a living from the virgin soil, harvest the amazingly abundant trout and sucker from the beautiful Timpanogos (Provo) River, and ascend to dominance over the valley.

Illustrated trade catalogue showing different images, illustrations and printing techniques for use with Wedgewood Enamel paper. "Wedgewood Enamel has an unusually dull surface which gives it an extremely attractive and classy appearance, and at the same time the surface is suitable for halftone printing. Ink especially made for use on dull-finish paper produces the best results, and care should be exercised to use the proper amount of ink as well as sufficient impression, and press should not be speeded up. The so-called duotone or double-tone inks when used on this paper, produce pleasing effects" - p.[1].

A brief illustrated history of Utah beginning with the mountain man era of the 1820s and continuing through the Mormon arrival and their contribution to the area by hard work. Also mentioned are Johnston's Army, the Donner Party, Blackhawk War and mining. Nice illustrated map of the Mormon Trail at the center.

London: Smith, Elder, and Co, 1857. First Edition. 346+16pp. Octavo [20.5 cm] Yellow pebbled cloth. Wear to corners and sunning to backstrip. Bookplate on front pastedown and name blind stamped on the front free endsheet. Otherwise very good. Chandless crossed the plains as a wagon driver in the summer of 1855, departing from Atchison in July and arriving in Salt Lake City on the first of November. The long description of Utah and the Mormons is based on his stay of two months, before departing for California through southern Utah and Nevada: "Los Vegos [sic] stands in the middle of a valley some thirty-five miles wide, and of considerable length, its lower end opening on the Colorado." - p.293 The fold-out 'Map shewing [sic] the Author's Route' is present at the front of the volume. which Carl Wheat noted was "One of the few 'Mormon Maps' disclosing the route southwest of Salt Lake City past Nephi, Fillmore and Cedar City and thence by desert, to southern California." Promotional piece for the D&RGW that is illustrated with thirteen full-page tinted photographs. Images include Timpanogos, Saltair, Bryce, Taos and Ogden Canyon. "They must come to anyone with a flicker of imagination who travels on the Denver & Rio Grande Western, either along the main line to Salt Lake and Ogden from Denver, or around the magic circle which embraces the southern peaks of Colorado, or southward from Antonito through the land of the Indian pueblos to historic Santa Fe, or along the Utah branch which takes one into the weird formations of Bryce Canyon, Cedar Breaks, Zion National Park and the North Rim of the Grand Canon." - pg. 2.

Gentle wear to extremities with upper left corner chipped with a few small losses. About very good. Large mine tunnel map for the Columbus Consolidated Mine that was located in the infamous mining town of Alta, Utah. "The Columbus Consolidated Mining company own and operate one of the best producing mines in this district. It is located at Alta, in the Little Cottonwood Mining district and is recognized as being one of the best paying properties in that district. the company was incorporated about five years ago and employ about 125 men in their mine, shipping about 2,000 tones of ore a month" - Truth[!] (05/26/1906). Presumed unique. Rare.

Nuno Beltran de Guzman ranks second only to Hernan Cortes in importance in the early conquest of New Spain. This is the first biography of a very important figure in the early history of Spanish colonization, and it corrects misconceptions about Guzman fostered by earlier writers including Bancroft. In particular, Chipman shows that Guzman more vigorously protected the natives than previously assumed. He served as governor of the province of Panuco, president of the First Audencia of Mexico, and was conqueror and governor of New Galicia. He and Cortes were fierce competitors. - Clark & Brunet 46.
