Description:
2013. Cork, Mercier Press, [2013]. 22 cm. 416 pages with illustrations, maps, portraits. Softcover. Excellent condition with only minor signs of external wear. Farmers, shopkeepers, publicans and businessmen were slaughtered in a bloody decade of bombings and shootings in the counties of Tyrone and Armagh in the 1970s. Four families each lost three relatives; in other cases, children were left orphaned after both parents were murdered. For years there were claims that loyalists were helped and guided by members of the RUC and Ulster Defence Regiment. But, until now, there was no proof. Drawing on 15 years of research, and using forensic and ballistic information never before published, this book includes official documents showing that the highest in the land knew of the collusion and names those whose fingers were on the trigger and who detonated the bombs. It draws on previously unpublished reports written by the PSNI's own Historical Enquiries Team. It also includes heartbreaking interviews with… Read More

1920. [Italy], c.1920. 43 cm x52 cm. Oval shaped Plaque. Excellent condition with only minor signs of external wear. The Temple of Caesar or Temple of Divus Iulius (Latin: Templum Divi Iuli; Italian: Tempio del Divo Giulio), also known as Temple of the Deified Julius Caesar, delubrum, heroon or Temple of the Comet Star, is an ancient structure in the Roman Forum of Rome, Italy, located near the Regia and the Temple of Vesta. The temple was begun by Augustus in 42 BC after the senate deified Julius Caesar posthumously. Augustus dedicated the prostyle temple (it is still unknown whether its order was Ionic, Corinthian or composite) to Caesar, his adoptive father, on 18 August 29 BC, after the Battle of Actium. It stands on the east side of the main square of the Roman Forum, between the Regia, Temple of Castor and Pollux, and the Basilica Aemilia, on the site of Caesar's cremation and where Caesar's testament was read aloud at the funeral by Mark Antony. John Kingerlee's copy. Inscribed by the author to Kingerlee (ink). Annotation by Kingerlee (small pen drawing) Jacket slightly torn. Text itself in excellent condition. Cahill writes about a quarter of a century involvement with the reality of life in the Third World. The book contains carefully constructed articles. Cahill argues that America's strategic interests are better served by compassion and understanding than by the transient expediency that so often characterizes our international actions. While working amidst the chaos of Nicaragua or Libya, Lebanon or the Horn of Africa, or while observing the destruction of Derry or the death of AIDS victims, Dr. Cahill asks probing questions and poses profound alternatives to current crises, and discusses the common bonds in a global village tired of war and… Read More

Description:
1990. Dublin, O'Brien Press, 1990. 24cm. 168 pages. Illustrated. Original Hardcover with original dustjacket. Excellent, as new condition with only minor signs of external wear. The year 1919 was a time of revolution in Europe and Ireland. Six years after the Dublin Lockout, nationalist forces and trade unionists fused into powerful opposition to British rule. Against this background, an outbreak of worker power emerged in Limerick and the Limerick Soviet took over the city. This was the first such 'soviet' in either Britain or Ireland, and for two weeks they governed the city, producing newspapers, issuing their own currency and winning worldwide publicity. British authorities saw this event as a major threat and put Limerick under strict military control. This is the definitive account of an unsung but important moment in Ireland's history. It tells the story of the Soviet, and follows the events as they unfold day-by-day throughout the two weeks. It places the Soviet in the context of the… Read More

Very good condition with only minor signs of wear. [R.Caldecott's Picture Books]. Randolph Caldecott (22 March 1846 – 12 February 1886) was a British artist and illustrator, born in Chester. The Caldecott Medal was named in his honor. He exercised his art chiefly in book illustrations. His abilities as an artist were promptly and generously recognized by the Royal Academy. Caldecott greatly influenced illustration of children's books during the nineteenth century. Two books illustrated by him, priced at a shilling each, were published every Christmas for eight years. Caldecott's output, however, ranged wider than this: he illustrated novels and accounts of foreign travel, made humorous drawings depicting hunting and fashionable life, drew cartoons and he made sketches of the Houses of Parliament inside and out, and exhibited sculptures… Read More
