Burlada, Navarra (Navarre): Cicame - Coca, 1994. FIRST EDITION OF THIS MASSIVE STUDY OF THE HUAORANI by a capuchin friar who lived among them. 488 pp on coated paper. Profusely illustrated throughout with photographs and maps. THE EDITION WAS DESTROYED SHORTLY AFTER PUBLICATION, AND THIS BOOK HAS BECOME ALL BUT UNOBTAINABLE. WorldCat lists only 12 copies. An interesting association copy from the library of Sarah Begum, a fellow of the Royal Geographic Society who, like the author, was one of very few outsiders who lived among the Huaorani. SIGNED by Begum on the front free endpaper, with a small sketch of a canoe and paddle. Folio. Publisher's laminated boards. Extremities lightly bumped, else FINE AND BRIGHT. Very rare and important.

Poitiers: F.-A. Saurin, 1837. A collection of short pieces in prose and verse by aspiring young literati of Poitiers. The "lithographies et musique" alluded to on the title-page are not present and were likely never printed, as the other copy I have located lacks them as well. Printed on good wove paper. Illustrated with several charming little wood-engraved vignettes. 8vo. Later 19th-century cloth and marbled boards. Uncut. Original wraps bound in. Slight traces of wear to binding, else very good. VERY RARE.

Geneve (Geneva): Editions Pierre Cailler, 1968. A SPECIAL COPY OF THE ORIGINAL EDITION OF THE STANDARD CATALOGUE RAISONNE. 233 items illustrated (usually one to a page) and fully described. From a total edition of 700 copies, this is ONE OF ONLY 50 COPIES WITH AN ORIGINAL WOODCUT BY DENIS, featuring four entirely separate images (C. 20, 21, 25, and 35). As called for, there are three impressions of this woodcut, on Rives, Japan, and Chine. Denis engraved these woodcuts from 1889 and 1893, and they are extremely important and beautiful images. Large 8vo. Original wraps. FINE AND BRIGHT.

ONE OF ONLY 50 NUMBERED COPIES ON EXTREMELY FINE IMPERIAL JAPANESE PAPER. Only these 50 copies include the original lithograph "Hiver (Matin)", also printed on Imperial Japanese paper. Includes a catalogue of the works and numerous mounted plates. From the collection of leading Belgian industrialist, bibliophile, and patron of the arts Paul Auguste Cyrille, Baron de Launoit (1891-1981), with his bookplate. Large 4to. Elegantly bound in three-quarters morocco and marbled boards, with mosaic on spine. Original wrappers preserved. Top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Traces of wear to corners of binding, otherwise FINE AND BRIGHT. A stunning copy, with a great provenance.
