The Reform Club, 9 January 1898. A good one page example 7 x 4 inches. William Sproston Caine (1842 1903), British politician and temperance advocate. Due to his opposition to alcohol he was praised by Gandhi. It has been suggested that Caine was the model for the story "The Enlightenments of Pagett, M.P." by Rudyard Kipling. Kipling notes that "Pagett" was a liberal supporter of A.O. Hume and particularly William Digby to whom Caine dedicated his 1890 guidebook Picturesque India.

Gloucester House, Park Lane, Saturday morning, probably December 1871. 2 pp. 7 x 4½ inches, folds, in good condition. George William Frederick Charles, Duke of Cambridge (1819-1904), the only son of George IIIs seventh son, Adolphus Frederick. Sir William Withey Gull, first baronet (18161890), physician. (Gull was suggested in the past as a suspect in the Jack the Ripper murders, related to an alleged royal/masonic conspiracy.) Gull attended the Prince of Wales during his severe illness from typhoid fever in 1871. The Prince began to recover on 14 December 1871. The Duke of Cambridge writes: Gull telegraph to me from last night at 9.50: No return of excess of fever tonight. Prince going on well as we ought to expect up to this time. This is more reassuring. I fear that on Thursday night he was in great danger but the crisis passed over.

Description:
Hastings, 5 March 1833. 1 page 9 x 7 inches, neatly tipped on to part of an old album page. Lady Georgiana has taken to Drawing again, which I am very glad to see. John Jeffreys Pratt, 1st Marquess Camden (1759 1840), known as The Earl Camden from 1794 to 1812, was a British politician. He served as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland between 1795 and 1798 and as Secretary of State for War and the Colonies between 1804 and 1805. Disliked in Ireland as an opponent of Roman Catholic emancipation and as the exponent of an unpopular policy, Camden's term of office was one of turbulence, culminating in the rebellion of 1798: his refusal to reprieve the United Irishman William Orr, convicted of treason on the word of one witness of dubious credit, aroused great public indignation.
